Past or present drug use doesn't seem to damage middle-aged brains, a new study finds.

British researchers studied the mental sharpness of thousands of 50-year-old subjects, and found that those who had used illicit drugs—mainly marijuana—actually performed better than others on tests of memory and other brain functions.

Isnt this why we cant get it legal to start with? We that see the truth and fight for the right to use it are fighting those that dont because they are dumb!

Oddly enough, the commentary on the original source rapidly turned into a fierce debate on Ron Paul and abortion. Does it strike anyone else as peculiar that that's what seems to be happening on any news or commentary relating in any respect to the Paul campaign and the difficulties people are having coming to terms with it? Paul would legalize drugs but would also take issues such as abortion out of federal purview. To many, this would result in criminalizing abortion in many states, an issue evidently more important to some than the million people (a very disproportionate number of them being black) arrested each year on pot busts, the prison populations and the costs thereof, not to mention a little matter of the Bill of Rights and the federal government's imposition of massive surveillance and, now, imprisonment without trial. I've been a 'feminist' for forty years and favor no government restrictions on abortion, but I am troubled by the emphasis on that as an issue to the exclusion of a great many others.

alcohol is the gateway drug, pot is the stop gap drug. I haven't checked lately but all those "Drug Free America" TV commercials years ago were paid for by, guess who? Anheuser Busch. Stop, think, ask why.

And another recent study shows smoking pot doesn't affect lung capacity even for long-time frequent users. ;)

Big surprise and very weird news...(not)...

Cannabinoids have been shown to protect brain cells and they are not just made by marijuana plants, by any means. Our brains and nervous system make them, they protect both physical and psychological health. They stimulate appetite and new mothers immediately feed their newborn babies with a large dose of them in the first hit of breast milk. All animals above insects have cannabinoidal systems.

Huffington Post needs to get out more often.;)

Eventually, we'll recognize this amazing plant for the gift she is, as the evidence of the efficacy of cannabis in a myriad of medical applications accrues.

Alliteration seems to be a side-effect of the morning puff. My apologies.

I heard it mentioned recently that the prohibition of pot could be seen as one of the biggest human holocausts in history, since the facts of its healing properties have been suppressed by the DEA, and people have suffered and died needlessly when the medicine was close at hand.

I worked my way through college in a bar as a doorman, bartender & Manager.
I saw the debilitating effects of alcohol 1st hand. The human brain and body are filled
with Cannabinoid receptors. Listen to a cannibus researcher, not some corporate liar from Dupont, Monsanto, or multi-billion dollar pHARMaceutical corpos like Merck. Pfizer, Amgen, etc who profit from the prohibition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piMS-mGrqoM

I am 62 and have smoked marijuana for 44 years,, I still remember my first joint, sitting on a sand bag in Viet Nam and howling at the brightest moon I have ever seen,, and no hangover the next day,, alcohol lost a good customer that day.
