Demi Lovato Goes On Twitter Rant About God

Demi Lovato Rant

First Posted: 01/06/12 10:02 AM ET Updated: 01/06/12 10:06 AM ET

Former Disney starlet Demi Lovato made a come back last year after a stint in rehab, and she did something most celebrities rarely do -- she told the truth.

In the months since the 19-year-old singer returned to the spotlight she's come clean about her struggle with eating disorders, cutting and even admitted that at one point she was "self-medicating" with drugs and alcohol.

She's also used Twitter and her 5.4 million Twitter followers as a sounding board to actually talk about body image and eating disorders in society and in Hollywood.

But last night things took a bit of a turn for Lovato when she posted a series of tweets that leave us wondering if she's doing alright.

Lovato wrapped up her rant by writing, "I'm not very religious but I'm VERY spiritual and I DO believe in God. I'm not perfect or preaching! Just tweeting... :)." And she left it on a more positive note, tweeting, "Just keep swimming...."

With everything Lovato has opened up about in the past year, it's difficult not to wonder exactly what type of "crap" has been thrown her way this time.

Ran into this while surfing. Have never heard of Demi Lovato till now. Seems to be a young lady in the face of personal adversity questioning her faith and personal relationship with God. What religious person has not faced this dilemma. Throughout history and through the Bible many great men and woman have asked similar questions of themselves and God. Even Jesus ask why God his father had forsaken him.

I have never tried to "force" my beliefs on anyone. We all have free will and the right to believe in or who we want. But please don't try to "force" your unbelief views on me.

who is she to question GOD?...by her being alive is enough to thank HIM for all HE has brought her thru'...don't let the power of free-will cause you to put your own "stumbling blocks" in your path! its your life and your opinion, but what if the outcome was different?...what if you allowed yourself to become consumed by the "self medication you claim you took...what if the "cuts" YOU inflicted upon yourself went deeper than you anticipated?...what if your self loathing caused you to not be here at all?...whatever your going thru' GOD can see you thru'...don't let the flashing cameras cause you to forget!...Every word coming out of Demi's mouth should be THANK YOU LORD!...some folks are so quick to forget...smh.

Wow! Who would have thought Demi Lovato could spark a great theological debate. People, keep in mind everyone is entitled to their opinion. Lofty decrees about someone's beliefs is disrespectful. Now play nice children!

It's becoming very trendy for celebrities to show off their alleged religious beliefs no matter how much their actions run contrary to them.

that tells me that Demi is becoming an atheist. I respect her even more now :)

I don't know why people think that whatever someone writes on Twitter is Gospel. Two hours later she might look back and say..."Did I really post that on Twitter?" Also, anyone can go on Twitter and create a whole persona and make comments that don't match their personality at all. Maybe they are trying to make people think that's how they are?

From the headline I assumed she had said some pretty nasty and irrational things, but it seems like all she did was react in pretty much the usual fashion as when something unexpected and not particularly pleasant happens. Rant? A wee bit of a hyperbole...maybe?

Twitter is a public forum and a social media network. I wish that the media would stop labeling these things as rants. The term rant has very negative connotations and only serves as a way to make people interested in the story. It's also highly inappropriate that you would use her recovery as a way to increase traffic on this site. She is expressing herself on a public forum which might not be the best idea for someone of her "celebrity" status but I think the media should try and show a little more respect.

I agree so many strong verbs misused on HP! People are always "ranting" and "slamming" others in their words. In my opinion it's more like grumbling and complaining, very boring indeed lol but closer to the truth!

You liberal atheists are sickening. Serious. The only people you are ok with being religious is muslims. Because deep down you are scared. Gets me sick. Keep your ridiculous hateful comments to yourselves.

Absolutely!! If people who think reasonably said to the bleeding hearts what they themselves say --they would faint. Obama does the very same thing- just watch his campaign he will spew more hateful things than anyone else. Stay Tuned......

Wait, aren't there countless "religious" depictions of Christ, beatific expression on "his" face, chest pulled open, with a "bleeding heart?" So confusing.

God is about love, mercy, grace and forgiveness, not condemnation. Why are so many people willing to try drugs & alcohol to escape from their problems/daily struggles? Why don't you try Jesus, doesn't cost you a thing, he won't hurt you, mislead you or lie, he just wants to show us his love, if we would just give him a chance and not be afraid of what we don't know, you just might find what your looking for. Do we not forgive our loved ones, friends, etc., when they hurt us in one way or another and give them a second chance? All he's asking for is a chance. I pray the Lords will for Demi Lovato.

If she's suffering now what would she do if she couldn't afford rehab and had to work at a grocery store for $8 an hr ?
Suck it up Demi and stop being a drama queen.

I haven't been in a church in 30 years, but I do believe in God, just not organised religion, nor do I believe in most of the stories in the Bible. I also believe in not forcing their beliefs on others, and why I run from the "Bible Thumpers," but I feel those who don't believe in God are just as annoying. If a person believes in something, why does that bother you? Why do you feel like you have to tell people that they believe in "fairy tales" and tell them religion is their crutch? If a person believes in something, and it makes them feel better and a more positive person, it should be respected.

Why do you call people who follow their beliefs and want to share it with others (including you) "Bible Thumpers", yet your last sentence says they "should be respected"? A bit confusing, I'd say. If you haven't been in a church in 30 years - maybe you should consider going back.

Because I am not for people going around trying to "convert" others either, in which there are many. I'm not for so-called Christians going into other countries with stacks of Bibles to force religion on the indigenous peoples. I respect people who respect others and the choices they make. I don't respect those who feel the need to force their beliefs, or lack of beliefs on others, because those people are not being respectful themselves. And as far as going back to church, no thank you.
06:33 PM on 01/08/2012
Why do you think that anyone WANTS to hear your beliefs? It's a personal thing and your insistence of cramming your skewed and sick beliefs down the throats of others is disgusting. You know I have removed ALL people like you from my life. They didn't respect my request that they mind their own business and continued their evangelical streak, so they are no longer friends, and some are no longer considered family members of mine.

If they don't respect my request, then they have no right to be in my life. Maybe you should look around and see how many people have now banned YOU from their lives?

Anyone who blames God for their troubles has a problem. We do quite well on our own bringing cr@p upon ourselves.
