LOC's 'Little Scholars' Child Care Gets 2nd Bomb Threat

A second bomb threat has been made against the Library of Congress' child care center.

According to an email obtained by Roll Call, the Little Scholars Child Development Center received a voice mail this morning threatening the center for Monday.

A previous voice mail left on New Year's Eve threatened a bomb at the center for Thursday, which prompted the decision to close for the day after many staffers said they were afraid to come to work.

"We hoped that this week's threat to the center was behind us," wrote Heather Hahn, president of the Library of Congress Child Care Association, adding that the voice mail left today sounded similar to the previous message.

Capitol Police and the FBI continue to investigate, and have, according to Hahn, "recommend[ed] that we go about our regular business."

"We fully expect the center to be open on Monday and are taking proactive steps to prevent a closure," she continued in her email to parents of children who go to the center.

In previous emails to parents, Little Scholars Director Ilene Lewis emphasized that while law enforcement officials did not believe the threat was credible, Capitol Police would be performing regular morning sweeps through the center throughout the week as a safety precaution.

In light of the second threat, Hahn wrote that the sweeps will continue "for at least the next couple of weeks."

She also said a guard will be posted inside the center on Monday.

Little Scholars, which opened in 1993, provides day care services for the children of employees of the Library of Congress, legislative branch offices, federal agencies and community members.
