Wizards Of Waverly Place

Whether it's a drama, sitcom, sci-fi series, or even reality TV program, there needs to be some suspension of disbelief when watching your favorite characters on the small screen. Of course, that's particularly true when it comes to wizards, witches, fairies, vampires and their ilk.

One such star, the sarcastic and sassy Alex Russo (Selena Gomez), will wave her magic wand for the last time on Disney Channel's "Wizards Of Waverly Place" this week (Fri., Jan. 6 at 8 p.m. EST). As we watch her poof off our our screens, HuffPost TV takes a look at those 13 (of course) supernatural characters -- past, present and of course, future -- who had our minds boggled with their powers and intelligence.

Alex, the middle and only female Russo child on "Wizards of Waverly Place," is perhaps the most sarcastic character ever to grace the Disney Channel and it's hard not to love her. Although she typically winds up in trouble -- either for her sharp tongue or her constant schemes -- it takes a lot of brain power to come up with the words and devious plans she does. While her older brother/arch nemesis Justin excels in both wizard and high school, it's Alex (Selena Gomez) who has the street smarts. As she says in one episode, "I am too book smart! Sure, I don't read books, but I hollow them out and hide things in them." Maybe she even has enough smarts to win the family wizard competition after four seasons of ups and downs.

Starbuck was a ghost, because she and a Leoben found the wreckage of her Viper with her charred corpse still in it on "Earth."  The hallucinatory versions of Six and Baltar would've been a better choice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3eHK-0anxU

And what about Bob, aka Hrothbert of Bainbridge from The Dresden Fileshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tczR4Y8Ujy4

You are so right. I stand corrected. Thanks

Sookie is by far one of the dumbest TV characters of all time. Even most hardcore True Blood fans regard her as a complete idiot. Also how does having guys want to drink your blood make you smart?

I tried reading the books the show is based on.  I only got four chapters into the first one before tossing it into a book donation bin.

Hey! What about Mr. Spock? Huh? Didja forget about Mr. Spock? Hmmmph. They forgot about Mr. Spock. This list bites.

How is Spock a supernatural being? He is half-human and half-vulcan. Not Supernatural at all.

At6 least you included Holly Marie Combs as Piper Halliwell from Charmed. That, by itself, makes this a list worth considering.

BSG as a show sucked when compared to the original. So, Starbuck's character really doesn't matter in this list.

I thought it was great for the first three seasons. Season 4 was a train wreck.

It lasted a lot longer for you than it did me. I gave up after the first couple of episodes. Did watch the end just to see how they'd do it.

How did "Buffy" or Giles not make this list?

Or Willow? Or Fred from Angel??
Or River from Firefly?!?
Or most of the characters from Dollhouse.

Take Sookie off this list. She is one of many characters on "True Blood" too stupid to live, including her brother and her best friend Tara.

The list is meaningless without Willow from "Buffy" and Doctor Who, pick your favorite version.

Sookie's brother and Andy the sheriff are my two favorite characters, and really the only reason I continue to watch. They're both just as dumb as Sookie is, but they make it delightfully entertaining.
