Veteran PTSD: Service Dog Helps Vet Live Life Again (VIDEO)

WATCH: Service Dog Helped Vet With PTSD Live Life Again

One U.S. Navy vet's loyal pup proved to be even more than a best friend -- he was his lifesaver.

One day in 2009, Buf Kloppenborg woke up having no recollection of the past 15 years of his life, NTV reports.

Kloppenborg was diagnosed with severe PTSD and had developed extreme social phobia and startle response, making it very difficult for him to do simple things like go to a grocery store or talk to people.

Until he met Sally.

Sally, a yellow lab, was given to Kloppenborg from the organization Paws4Vets, which gives veterans with PTSD dogs as companions. Now, he's getting better at interacting with people, and is working on redeveloping a relationship with his children.

"I don't know if I'd even be here," Kloppenborg told NTV.com. "When you get to the point where you can't leave the house, when you can't interact with people, it gets very depressing."
