Is Ryan Seacrest's TV future still up in the air?

The "American Idol" host told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that he can't comment on the rumors that he's heading for NBC's "Today," which surfaced earlier in December.

He did, however, hint that he is devoted to the Fox reality singing competition show. "I can't imagine life without 'American Idol,'" he said, according to a tweet from TV Guide.

When Seacrest was asked if he'd consider hosting NBC's "The Voice," he brought his point home, according to another TV Guide tweet. "I only see myself hosting 'Idol,'" he told reporters.

Mike Darnell, Fox's president of alternative entertainment, added, "Our expectation is that Ryan will stay with the show," according to TV Line's Matt Mitovich via Twitter.

Time will tell if that expectation is upheld, but Seacrest seems to think he can handle it all. "I like to juggle balls ... Career balls," he joked to reporters, according to The Hollywood Reporter's Lacey Rose via Twitter.

The problem with Idol is it jumped the shark and very few or none of the winners become as famous as Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. The last few winners people don't even remember who they are.

Seacrest, while he is intelligent he is not in the same form as Lauer or Brokaw.....who are both excellent at what they do and are always well informed on many of todays issues. Bryant Gumbel was a bit of an egomaniac and I never cared for his demeanor. Regardless I just can't see Seacrest taking over if and when Lauer quits. Surely they can come up with someone else....he's more of an entertainment MC....he's already cast himself as such. I just can't see him interviewing a world leader or reporting on the every day maladies of the world. It's not him.

The only time I watch Idol is to see the funny first auditions and even then I can only take so much. Its not Ryan, he is a good host, but after 10 years..boring..and the same goes for most of the other "fixed" competition "reality shows"

Why do you persist in treating "American Idol" as if it were a newsworthy event rather than a phony, counter-aesthetic blight on the popular culture?

He certainly has his hands in many projects. Being on KIIS FM, Hosting the American Idol, Dick Clarks New Years Rocking Eve, I think that's the name of it but anyway, as a Journalist, NO.

Although I see so many are against Ryan Seacrest possibly moving to the Today Show, I think it's about time he did something more meaningful and an upgrade to his career. I think we all might be surprised that he would bring some personality to the show. I honestly he would be more himself and not use the "reality show" mentality that is needed to host a show like AI. It's time he moves on to a more mature type of job that will give him true credit to his field.

MEANINGFUL MEANS NOTHING. MONEY MEANS EVERYTHING.

I've always thought that Seacrest was the kind of guy who likes to "juggle balls"

I've been a loyal fan of the Today show since 70's but if NBC hires Seacrest I'll switch to another morning show. Stick to hosting or a game show Ryan. You really have no other talents.
