Blue Ivy Carter: Beyonce, Jay-Z Announce Baby's Birth

Blue Ivy Carter

It's official! Welcome to the world, baby Blue Ivy Carter.

Reports that Beyonce and husband Jay-Z welcomed their daughter, Blue, were confirmed Monday when the couple released an announcement (via E! Online's Twitter account).

Hello Hello Baby Blue! We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven ... it was the best experience of both our lives."

The couple also revealed that Blue weighed in at 7 pounds and was delivered naturally, not by a C-section as previously reported.

The fiercely private couple's announcement comes as a bit of a shock, considering it took years for them to confirm their marriage. Their statement also clears up any confusion over the child's name and that it is, in fact, Blue Ivy -- and not the other way around.

Earlier Monday, Jay-Z released a touching song, "Glory," about his new darling daughter, with Blue allegedly making her recording debut at the end of the tune.

Where was the press when *you* gave birth? Really? Who the h are you? Oh, wait don't tell me, you're just like me and the millions of other non-celebrities on the earth. Get over it. Now when you gain celebrity for whatever reason, then people, outside your immediate family and friends, may care. Until then, bask in the glow of those who know and care about you and your children.

I know the joy and happiness that Beyonce and Jay-Z are expericing at this time. My daughter and Beyonce experienced many of the same problems during their pregnancys and God gave them the most Priceless Gifts.... Blue Ivy and Baby Owen... born just days apart but I'll always remember the connection that was created in my heart and that was the greatest gift anyone could ever receive in their life.
God Bless...

I respect both of them, but this name? Well, to each their own. I expected some reality out of them though. I love the name Ivy, but every time I say "Blue" it reminds me of a dog. Blue somehow sounds very masculine. It's almost as stupid as "Apple" which really took the cake. Apple sounds like they were trying to be clever and fell very far short of the mark.

I also expected them to come up with a better name. They both seem so sensible and down-to-earth. Fortunately for celebrity babies, the name standard is different from us 'regular' people. They won't get bullied in their circles for having a name like Blue, Apple, Moroccan, Bronx Mowgli, or whatever that long, horrible name Lisa Bonet gave her baby is. That one's the worst.

Congrats to JZ and Beyonce on the birth of Blue Ivy! I am a little disappointed in the way they are spending way too much money on materialistic things. If you want to show the world that you are caring parents, you could take that 1.5 million and put it towards a fund that will help parents who can't afford immunizations shots for babies in her honor. There are PLENTY of babies in NYC alone that cannot afford this. She will learn at an early age to give is better than to receive. A lifelong lesson.

If there is any truth to the fact that other parents can't see their own newborns due to the fact of the famous pairs security, they are disgusting.

I really thought they'd go with a classic traditional older name....completely not what I expected but it's their baby. Don't know if I could call my kid Blue without thinking of the bird from Rio. I had a very hard time picking my kids' names. Each name led my thoughts to something weird haha.

Clearly I've upset some of the ranks of the fanclub. LOL!

I am a bit put off over the business tie-ins they have (albums) with the birth of their child, To name your child to coincide with your album titles is more of an opportunist than anything. I really thought Beyonce and Jay Z would be the last two celebs to do so :(

Stevie Wonder did it with "Isn't She Lovely", Yolanda Adams had her daughter in a song, Whitney Houston. Jay Zsong with the baby crying at the end is touching. Don't everyday parents record their child's first sounds??? You just don't have an audience that wants to hear your baby cry.
08:30 AM on 01/11/2012
Yes, but Stevie Wonder wrote a song about his child, not naming his kid after his album title. There is a big difference.

Jay-Z doesn't sing. Singing=notes=a melody. Beyonce sings. Jay-Z raps. Let's not insult all singers by calling it anything other than it is (must've taken him all of 20 min. to "compose" it, record it and shove it at us), and congrats to them both.

They didn't name the child to coincide with albums. Why would you assume the worst? They've given all of their ventures names that have personal meaning to them. Jay has a thing for Blue, always has. The two of them like the number 4, because both of them were born on the fourth of their respective months. That's why they chose 4-4--08 as their wedding date. Any the name Ivy just comes from a Roman numeral version of 4.Chillax! If you want to be "put off" over something, let it be about why people think they have a right to be put off by something that doesn't even involve them, as if they owe the public something in everything they do, no matter how personal.

Love them!
And the name will grow on us, I hope.
Not too fond of naming someone a color, or a plant, but to each their own.
Of course, I have my baby names picked out already and I don't even have any yet, so I guess we are all a little different.

I like the name Blue. Blue Ivy together makes me think of a vine.

Are you kidding? My stomach hurts from laughing. A vine??

Yes, a la the "Ivy League", because in the east central coast it vines up the brick buildings.

Who cares about the stupid surrogate rumors. These two DID let their private security detail prevent other parents from seeing their kids in the NICU during their stay. They did tape up security camera's putting every other parent and child in that ward in danger.

They lost any shred of respect I had for them. Pure self centered narcissists who're INSANELY over rated musicians.
10:28 PM on 01/10/2012
sounds like you never had any shred of respect for them in the first place. Why even come here and read the story. Just saying....
11:18 AM on 01/11/2012
I would feel the same against ANY celebrity that had the nerve to bring in a private security detail that kept other new parents away fromt their new borns. More classism in US.
04:00 AM on 01/11/2012
Do you really believe that story. No way could they keep me from my baby. More media lies probably.

The hospital said it wasn't true.
11:17 AM on 01/11/2012
Yeah it's a conspiracy. The lawsuit that will be filed by a number of parents and the investigation into the hospital will say otherwise.

Media lies??? A conspiracy to trash Jay Z and Beyonce for what?

Why don't you ask like 500 million other women who've done it? Better yet, why don't you ask your beautician, if you have one?

Happy for them an all but, you mean to tell me as long as this mf's been in the game, there's no love childs/silenced moms out there? He's acting like this a new experience for him, but my gut says some mad PR scrambling has gone on since all this..Not like he can't afford that (double)-mp

You are ignorant. Not all black me have hidden babies. You need to let those stereotypes go and go meet some black men. I have 5 male cousins, and a brother on my mothers side, 5 male cousins on my dad's side....NOT ONE out of wedlock child or babies everywhere. Turn of FIX and Fools. There are more men of color doing the right thing there there are men who aren't. Like I said, ignorant.
