SECOND UPDATE: Cory Monteith told The Hollywood Reporter: "Yes, I'll be back ... I'm very excited." Monteith confirmed that for Season 4, "people are going to graduate," but they'll be "keeping the William McKinley paradigm intact." Echoing Chris Colfer's sentiments, Monteith added: "Ryan [Murphy] has come up with a brilliant, ground-breaking idea for how to include us graduating high school seniors into next season." His on-screen girlfriend, Lea Michele told THR: "When we heard Ryan's plan, it really made us even more thrilled."

UPDATE: Chris Colfer, the actor behind the beloved Kurt on "Glee," told The Insider: "I'm coming back." Colfer confirmed at Fox's All Star TCA party on Jan. 8 that there will be no spin-off, but that "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy has a plan that is "kind of revolutionary. It's the best of both worlds."

There's good news and bad news for Gleeks.

The "Glee" spin-off that had been planned for Rachel (played by Lea Michele), Finn (played by Cory Monteith) and Kurt (played by the Emmy-winning Chris Colfer) is not happening, Fox entertainment chief Kevin Reilly said at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, according to a tweet from TV Guide.

"We are graduating the characters that are arcing to graduation," he revealed, adding, "There will not be a spin-off." Reilly did say that "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy has a "really cool idea" to potentially bring those characters back, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Though Reilly offered no further details about Murphy's plans, he confirmed that Michele will be back "Glee" Season 4. But the fates of Colfer and Monteith's characters -- as well as other McKinley High School seniors (i.e. Brittany, Santana, Puck, Mike, Tina) -- are still up in the air. "Creatively, we'd want everybody back," Reilly explained, via TV Line. "I've got to look at the contractual situation for all of those. And we will. I don't want to…get into details. I'm just trying to whet your appetite. But I think it's going to be a good thing for the show. It's cool. It's different."

When asked if it's possible for "Glee" to have a show within a show, Reilly said, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that he's "alluding to some version of that." By the spring episodes, he explained, the plan for next season will be clear.

In July 2011, Murphy told THR that Michele, Monteith and Colfer would graduate in 2012 and no longer be a part of the show. The actors claimed ignorance about their reported impending departure and "Glee" viewers erupted in fury, although reports dated back to December 2010 that some of the actors would leave after their characters' graduation.

A few weeks later, Murphy back-peddled about misspeaking and said his remarks were "stupid." He told Deadline:

Michele, Monteith and Colfer "were involved in the process for 3 to 4 months to the point where we were even talking about cities and relocations and we called Julliard and what would that mean and how would we do it ... We were going to do a spin-off where the three of them were going to go on. They all knew what was happening, they all had approved it, they all said they wanted to do it."

Reilly's 2012 TCA statements coincide with his remarks about the now-dead "Glee" spin-off at the TCA summer press tour in August 2011. He said the spin-off is still a possibility, but no decision would be made until 2012. And he confirmed that three characters will graduate in "Glee's" third season.

Do they really need to shove the gay thing in our faces every episode? That and the fact that the songs they cover now are terrible are the reasons why I don't watch anymore.

I loved the first season. I think it went downhill after that. I watched all of the 2nd, but haven't seen any of the third. They definitely went too far with the "gay thing." Why would they make Santana gay? Overkill.

I agree! It's the reason I dont watch anymore! We didn't need the gay thing in our faces every single episode!

I've watched the show twice..the first and last time. It just wasn't my kind of show.

Glee is just too silly. It has outlived itself.

Makes sense considering Glee is dying as well, putting it against the NCIS juggernaut was just silly.

Well considering Glee's biggest draw was the 18-49 rating group at 9, and suddenly it started getting crushed in that group when it got moved to 8, answers is yes, numbers never lie. Math is your friend, get with it.

LOL i watch Glee, and can't name a single NCIS character. I have to say Glee is probably more accurate then the way they portray cheesy endings to every crime in NCIS and other shows like it though. And to everyone saying the gay thing doesn't need to be so in your face, look around, that's life and i'm disappointed people are so put off and uncomfortable STILL about it.

They should cancel Glee too!

I watched a few episodes in the begining & liked it. I was a drama geek in high school, have performed locally in theater & in bands, and thought I'd like it. I also must realize that I watch TV with my 8 yr old daughter. One episode brought up the much needed conversation about gays, she now understands her father's an my attitude towards it, and that was enough. Otherwise, the sexual themes, whether hetrosexual or homosexual, just became too mature for an 8 yr old, so we discontinued watching. I don't miss it too much, other than I ADORE the Sue Sylvester character (and Jane Lynch)!

you know jane lynch is gay, right?
04:44 PM on 04/26/2012
Absolutely! Our family has no problem with that.

Could it be that Glee does a disservice to gays? Why does it makes gays look silly, preachy or flambouyant? Somehow the gay characters always win in every situation while dewy eyed, guilt ridden others look at them with love and support. Ain't gonna happen in the real world, rightly or wrongly, and I question if it will be propelled along by an agenda driven, trite show. I also ask if it sets LGBT teens up for disappointment.

i liked glee alot until they shoved the gay thing down my throat oh my did i say that

Never liked the show and I am getting sick of the media, tv, and movies shoving this gay lifestyle at us.

That's a funny thing to say for someone who like you who likes to get stuff shoved down his throat.

I sometimes feel like my wife and I are the only gays on the planet that don't like "Glee." I don't find it to be good at all.

Wow! You people are so harsh! Are you all paid critic?! You sure sound like it. All this hostility over a t.v. show, well, some people do like it. I for one didn't want to see it, but my daughter told me to try it. I, personally, like it, mostly because I love the songs and these people can really perform. The dancing is pretty good, too. Reminds me of the Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and Ginger Roger days, when you had to know how to do everything - sing, dance and act. Lighten up people! Find something else more important than a t.v. show to argue over.

that's exactly why i watch, just for a simple good performance that makes me smile, or cry depending on the song.. i'll admit it.

I enjoy Glee but at some point you need to filter in some new bodies with a different story line every so often. I thought that the Glee project would do just that but hasn't done so as of yet.
