North American International Auto Show Media Preview Kicks Off In Detroit

Auto Show's Media Week Kicks Off

Journalists from around the globe are descending on Cobo Hall in downtown Detroit Monday for the week of media preview events at the North American International Auto Show.

New media is certainly offering faster access to news at the auto show, with a competition to tweet out the first pictures and big announcements reaching a frenzy. (Check out some of the day's best tweets in our slideshow below.)

Autos Insider sent a picture of the new Ford Focus this morning, and Click On Detroit has a live stream of the Ford Fusion unveiling. (MLive's Aaron Foley tweeted a picture.)

Of course, photos of Chrysler's revived Dodge Dart, which will be built in Detroit and provide 1,100 local manufacturing jobs, leaked online last week. Chrysler will also be livestreaming the Dart's reveal.

Autoblog was on the scene when Cadillac showed off its new ATS at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit Sunday, on Auto Show Eve.

And Nissan, which is returning to the Detroit show after a four-year hiatus, took to Facebook to debut its new Pathfinder.

The week's big, live, old media Oscar moment -- the announcement of the North American Car and Truck of the Year -- has already happened. The winners: the Hyundai Elantra and the Range Rover Evoque.

Not everyone is quite so jazzed about a conference center full of vehicles. Occupy Detroit and members of the group Autoworker Caravan protested the event Sunday, saying the attention to shiny new products ignores the workers who make them.

HuffPost Detroit will be bringing auto show coverage from a local perspective. Please tip us if you have a good perspective on NAIAS. Do you work at a now overcrowded downtown restaurant? Can't get a seat on the People Mover? Are there more ruin porn photographers about than usual? Let us know!
