Police Say Colo. Bomb That Hurt Couple Was In Paper Bag With Their Names Written On It (VIDEO)

01/ 8/12 11:26 PM ET   AP

LAFAYETTE, Colo. -- A bomb that seriously injured a Colorado couple was left beside their car in a paper bag with their names written on it, and the woman's ex-husband is a person of interest in the case, police said Sunday.

Allyson Stone, 44, and her current husband, 59-year-old Christopher Stone, were hospitalized with burns after the explosion Saturday in Lafayette.

The couple found the bag as they were preparing to drive to Boulder, and they put it in the car with them, police said. Christopher Stone told investigators it exploded as his wife began to open it when they had driven about a block.

About 20 homes were evacuated as police investigated. Residents were allowed to return about eight hours later when no other explosives were found.

Lafayette Police Cmdr. Gene McCausey said Sunday that Allyson Stone's former husband, 55-year-old Michael Anthony Brittain, is considered a person of interest in the case.

McCausey said police and FBI agents searched Brittain's home in the Denver suburb of Thornton on Saturday night. However, Brittain is not in custody and has not been charged. A phone listing for Brittain could not immediately be found.

Neighbors told KMGH-TV that Brittain is a nice person and they couldn't imagine him being involved in the attack.

Brittain and Allyson Stone have had friction in the past, the station reported.

Court records show Brittain was charged in a domestic violence case involving his wife and children in August 2003. However, the Boulder County district attorney dismissed three of the charges in February 2004, and Brittain was found not guilty on a remaining assault charge in January 2004, according to a state court summary.

Allyson filed for divorce three days after Brittain's arrest in the case. In February 2011, the judge in the divorce case issued a judgment saying Allyson Stone owed $121,520 to Brittain, court records said.

Court documents also show that in March 2007, a 63-year-old Boulder County woman was granted a permanent restraining order against Brittain. It's unclear why she obtained the order.

Allyson Stone has been in the news in the past. She received death threats in 2010 after a dog bit her and the case went to court, The Denver Post reported. The dog could have been put to death under vicious-animal statutes but was spared. Authorities have said they don't believe the explosion was related to that incident but hadn't ruled it out.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also was assisting in the investigation.

It is incorrect that she owed him money, that typo has been corrected by the state government. The truth will come out that the ex did it.

a package to take into ones car for exploding... very not-too-clever.. hm, what is this package resting against my vehicle? Perhaps somebody bumped my license plate and felt bad causing them to produce bakery goods for me to enjoy in my car...

Boy! What day is it?
.

Is that so? Shake this package and open it for meh... =\ on the other side of my closed door outside of a confined space... =[

ugh. whomever did this is a coward, a bully, and a terrorist.
i hope they find him or her and lock them up. For good. Anyone who could do this is not fit to be in a free society. The kids could've been in the car.
How awful. Whatever grudges anyone had, NOTHING justifies this. The loser who did this best be kept behind bars till kingdom come and then some.

She received death threats after a dog bit her? That doesn't make sense.

She was the dogs paid caretaker. It happened at a veterinary clinic where she was working as an assistant. Afterwards, she went to court seeking to have the dog killed. You have to remember that this is HP. They only include the fluff in their stories. Most of the facts are omitted.

My sincere sympathies to these victims - really ! I was married for 14 yrs. Didn't take the plunge until I was 34 as well. Proves to me again that getting married isn't worth it ! I hope this couple sees justice on this.

The known statistics, in the Veterinary community, are that more workers, in clinics, are bitten by small dogs. As a retired licensed Veterinary Technician, I will make the comment that since this woman was bitten in the face she was at fault. Never, never put your face or hands near a dog or for that matter, a cat's face. You are asking for trouble. That she had the gall to sue the owners of the dog is outrageous. She was completely careless and at fault. I would be embarassed to let people know I was so ignorant and careless that I let a small dog have the opportunity to bite me. I was a tech for 20 years and had my share of scratches and even close calls but we were told in vet tech school that if we or the vet got bit that more than likely it was from our own carelessness. I do not wish pain on anyone but no sympathy for her concerning the dog incident.

You are a tech .I am ahuge animal lover and until I watched dog whisper had no idea that a dog could be angry or stressed even though they are wagging their tail. You cant make such an irresponsible assertion. As an animal lover am thrilled the dog didn't get put down I would never ask for that kind of resolution for this.we are personally responsible for any animal in our care we bring into the public realm. I always as an adult asked if I can approach an animal and educate the people around me.unless her behavior towards the dog was egregious bypassing owner loud or aggressive on her approach, I'm am with the woman and should have medical experiences and permanent damage, damages.many people love animals but no nothing of their behaviors and its an education issue you were and are in a position to educate so educate stop blaming "innocent " ignorance.this person did not deserve to be blown apart for anything she is said to have done to any "enemy"she may have had.

Sorry, you dont seem like an animal lover to me or even someone who likes them at all. The animals paid caregiver took the owners to court after being bitten seeking money and to have the dog destroyed. If you dont want the threat of an animal bite then dont work as an animal caregiver.

I think they should take a long look at her. She has a track record of trying to set up her Ex and she's ripped him off for over $120,000.

“I'm guessing you've had many restraining orders drawn up against you. Men like you that want to play the victim and act like everything is so much easier for women in society need to get your head out of your butt. Obviously she's not playing victim. Someone sent her a bomb and her ex had been charged with domestic violence-which for many men is easy to walk away from until they've actually killed their partner.â€

Sorry Toots, No I've never had a restraining order against me. He was charged on domestic violence, the judge threw out 3 counts immediately and he was found guilty of the 4th. Do you know why? Because he was, she made it up. Like you, she probably played the poor woman victim card, how is it she owes her ex over $120,000? He needed a protection order from her. It sounds like she is trying to set him up...................again. She does have a track record for it.

By the way, neighbors always say the suspect was nice and friendly and they couldn't imagine he could do such a thing. Wait until the FBI get done with this piece of garbage. Strangers don't blow up ex-wives. This guy thinks he will out smart the forensic experts. He will be very mistaken. The authorites didn't go to his house in bomb suits on a whim. Wait until the rest of the story surfaces, silly ones.

I don't care what she did; she and her new husband did not deserve this. Not to mention if any property damage to someone innocent occurred. Whoever did this is a pathetic piece of garbage.

And some people wonder why it legal to carry a gun, if she had one back then he wouldn't be around to plant the bag for her to open! So much crime, not enough cops to patrol!

Seems like YOU were involved in this bombing. You admitting personal knowledge that you know who the bomber is?

so you find an anonymous bag with your name on it, you bring it into the car and open it as your driving away? first, you nudge it with a toe, they you take a peek, then you pick it up, open it, look inside, then you get in the car and drive off, and I don't even have any enemies like her
05:16 PM on 01/09/2012
The lady knows how to pick 'em!
