The Basics
is located just 15 minutes from downtown Calgary, offering a ton of winter activities plus the fun and convenience of being close to a major city. Aside from skiing and snowboarding, the park offers bobsleigh rides, a luge and zip line. For the thrifty skier, Canada Olympic Park hosts discounted events such as Women's Wednesdays and Family Fun Nights. Situated at the edge of the Rocky Mountains, this vast park was also host to the XV Olympic Winter Games.
The Mountain
Canada Olympic Park has a
of 4,101 feet and a base elevation of 3,707 feet. The vertical descent is 394 feet with trails offering everything from downhill skiing to cross-country. The park is open from November to April, providing a nice long ski season. Typical annual snowfall is only 45 inches, but the park has the capacity to cover 97 percent of the skiable terrain with artificial snow when needed.
Trails And Lifts
There are
at Canada Olympic Park, one high-speed quad, one fixed-grip quad, one double chair and two magic carpets. There are three trails over 90 acres of skiable area, one rated as easy and the other two tailored to intermediate-level skiers. The longest run is about 2,096 feet. An International Ski Federation-sanctioned 15-foot superpipe, the only one of its kind in North America, was added to the park in 2003 for snowboarders.
