Drew Barrymore Photoshop Mess On February 2012 InStyle Cover (PHOTO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 01/10/2012 12:37 pm Updated: 01/10/2012 4:40 pm

We're huge fans of Drew Barrymore -- to the (obsessive?) point that we planned out what she might wear to say "I do" at her upcoming wedding.

So we were also stoked to see Drew on the cover of February's InStyle... but while the actress looks gorgeous with her white dress and ombre hair, we have some questions about the Photoshop job.

Specifically: what happened to her hips? (Especially on the left side.) Her right boob also seems to have vanished, or at the very least, it's getting squished in that dress.

And we love Drew's smile, but her right lip appears to have been manipulated so much that she ends up with a "The Joker"-type grin. Eek!

Take a look at the cover below and tell us if you think Drew's been retouched a tad too generously, and also check out our gallery of some of the more egregious Photoshop fails in recent memory.

Bloomingdales turned a perfectly innocent model into a mutant, giving her the pointiest, most elongated elbow we've ever seen.

I am an artist and, as someone who has studied many facial features and bodies for drawings and paintings, I can tell you confidently that there is nothing wrong with this picture. First off, she is posed with her hips facing off frame to the viewer's right, but has turned her torso at the waist so that her upper body is facing the camera. It's a very simple thing to do - try it - and her hips look perfectly normal for someone in that position. Second, she has always had a crooked smile. It seems she got caught on film at a slightly more unflattering point in her smile than usual, but the shape of her cheeks and her eyes match the crookedness of her mouth, indicating that it is real. I'm sure this photo has been edited, as almost all magazine pics are (I also used to work as a graphic designer for a magazine), but not in the ways you claim.

This does not even look like Drew Barrymore! She is BEAUTIFUL..but what the hell have they done to her on this cover??? Whoever photoshopped this cover needs to be fired! If the goal was to re-touch it untill unrecognizable, well they succeeded. This is AWFUL!

while i agree that there have been some big photoshopping flubs for magazine covers, Drew's cover for InStyle isn't as bad as it appears. I think a big part of it is the fact that she's wearing a solid white form-fitted dress on a WHITE magazine cover...
The boob and hip issue can be explained by the fact that Drew's not face-on with the camera. If you look at the image with perspective in mind, you'll realize that her lower body is facing left and she's turned her torso toward the camera. InStyle could have EASILY avoided this by either including more of her lower body OR putting her in a different outfit that would provide contrast better...
But i do agree about the lips/smile. Drew's mouth does curl up more on one side naturally, but THAT detail looks to be exaggerated on the cover.

Looks more like Celine Dion than Drew Barrymore.

Check out some of the most current paparazzi shots of Drew on line. She has slimmed down. Smart girl, pushing forty and all. And her face isn't much different than the In-Style cover. Maybe her hair is perfect in the cover and her face is lit up but that's the fashion mag business. And the last time I looked still a product of the USA. I like it. :)

Oh the irony of the headline of the magazine right next to her squished right boob. "The New Rules of Figure Flattery"...easy. Use Photoshop. Her breasts are lopsided, but that's not terribly uncommon for Drew as she tends not to wear bras often. The comment about her mouth being twisted? If you watch Drew speak, you will notice that her mouth often does shift to one side. She does have a naturally twisted mouth, which is part of her cute charm. However, those hips have been shopped to the point of being absent. That part I absolutely agree with. Drew is a natural beauty who does not need to be hacked and shopped. But, until we as women stop buying these magazines until we get honest photographs on the cover...this is going to continue to happen. We have to write magazines like InStyle, Glamor, Vogue, Vanity Fair, etc. and tell them that the women in these ads are beautiful AS THEY ARE and we don't want to see the chopped/shopped versions of them. Drew is stunning regardless.

I think that whoever the photo editors are on these magazine covers, aren't very good. If these bizarre photos make it to the newsstands then it's not anyone's problem but the magazine's. Also, if these celebs want to look like mutants, then that's their problem.

Even images of Jillian Michaels, no doubt one of America's fittest women, are heavily Photoshopped on covers I've seen her on.

Or how about magazine covers of Paula Deen with those ridiculously oversaturated 'deer in the headlights' blue eyes...

I don't buy those magazines as they're mindless pieces of fluff suitable for perusing in the doctor's office when you have nothing better to do.

Even ads for mascara are photo-shopped to make lashes look longer and tell a complete lie about how much the mascara does. How far can this go?

Now, I think Drew Barrymore is as cute as a June beetle playing jazz fiddle on a seven layer weddin' cake but ... who the hell is the woman in that first picture?

By Thor's sweaty, thunderous thighs, Drew Barrymore is a beautiful woman - don't mess with her!
