Dump Trucks Rescue Students From Texas Floodwaters (VIDEO)

Students trapped by floodwaters at two Houston elementary schools were rescued by Public Works dump trucks, KHOU TV reports.

Although authorities said students from Peck Elementary and the KIPP Academy were not in any danger, the station reported that efforts to get them across the water to dry were still ongoing after 6 p.m.

Dejea Sanders, a 12-year-old student, told the Houston Chronicle many of the students were scared after seeing the campus flooded.

"A lot of the kids freaked out. We've never been through this before," she told the Chronicle after being reunited with her family.

Both schools canceled their classes for today, and KTRK TV reports that dozens of people around the area also needed emergency evacuation.

"It started to rise higher and higher," evacuee Cammie Aldridge told KTRK. "We made it through, and it was scary. Honestly, it was scary," she said.
