Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt Meet Obama At The White House (PHOTOS)

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama might be powerful and well-known, but the White House got some Hollywood star power Wednesday: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stopped by for a chat with the chief executive.

The actors were spotted in the Oval Office by photographers waiting outside for the president to take off for a trip to Chicago.

The White House confirmed Pitt and Jolie were in town to screen Jolie's movie about Bosnian war crimes at the Holocaust museum. They dropped by so the president could talk with Jolie about her work on preventing mass atrocities and combating sexual violence against women.

Pitt was seen sporting a cane, which he's been using following a skiing injury.

It's not the first time Obama's met with one of the pair. In 2009 the president met with Pitt to discuss his working rebuilding New Orleans' Ninth Ward after Hurricane Katrina.

Jolie also met with CIA Director David Petraeus at the agency's headquarters. Jolie wanted Petraeus' perspective on cultural trends in Afghanistan for her work with Afghan refugees, an official close to the former U.S. commander in Afghanistan said, speaking anonymously to discuss the private meeting. They had a similar meeting in Baghdad in 2008.

Mr. Pitt and Ms. Jolie are doing this for self promotion? You cynics do understand, don't you, that they've quite literally been amongst the most famous human beings on Earth for over a decade? So the need for self-promotion is what?

And you're critical of the President for meeting with them? Do you actually think that this is the first President that has met with celebrity activists in regards to international issues?

This couple have put themselves in harm's way and witnessed things you and I can hardly imagine, in some of the saddest environments on this planet, for no other reason than to shine the media's light on the plight of the unfortunate.

In our midst we have talented people who become enormously famous and enormously wealthy... and they decide to give back. They decide to give hands-on attention to issues of poverty and hunger and international strife... instead of just sitting by their pool in Montreux or the Hamptons sipping champagne....

And you criticize and belittle them. Very sad and somewhat sick.

Easy to criticize others from the comfort of your Doritos-stained couch, isn't it. While you do nothing.

What a surprise that Obama is pandering to billionaire "Hollywood Stars"! Of course, since they support liberal politicians insulates them from the left-wing criticism leveled at wealthy businessmen, whose professions actually create and perpetuate jobs for average Americans as opposed to the Hollywood types who are paid outrageous sums for reading lines written for them to the direction of others, and whose "profession" does nothing for average Americans. "Aspiring actors" don't get ridicule from me or anyone else. It is the "Hollywood Elite" (hardly aspiring) who, just because they were hired to read what someone else wrote, to the direction of someone else, are pandered to by politicians. And I really don't give a crap whether they "embrace" me or not! I don't embrace their hypocritical politics.

Hi yes , It is nice to hear when celeberties get involved in political matters since they have the funds to do so..I have always been team angelina anyway and very very admire her silence in matters when they constantly try to tear them apart. For her involvement in other countries as well.. Riiiiight. Everything this couple does is in the name of "self-promotion". Never mind that they don't have publicists which is virtually unheard of in Hollywood. Never mind that Angelina Jolie changed forever after witnessing the horrors of the world up close and went from a self-absorbed actress to a proactive and compassionate person being trying to end suffering for other human beings. And never mind that Brad Pitt's life changed forever when he met Jolie. He's a better person for it, and that's why he left Aniston - a perfectly nice woman, but a typical Hollywood celebrity. Jolie and Pitt have witnessed the horrors up close and are seeking ways to end it, and have enriched countless lives and their own in the process. I wish these good people well because I watch their actual interviews instead of reading headlines on tabloids to find out who and what they're about: people who want to do good in this world, and have the power to do so.

Do people who aren't movie starts or with lots of money or with connections ever get invited to the White House? I'd like to see the White House invite groups (maybe 10 or so people per week) from different backgrounds to chat with the chief executive. I'm not sure if something like this already happens. If it doesn't, it should. It would certainly make stories like this seem less atrocious.
