Elizabeth Warren Raises $5.7 Million In Fourth Quarter 2011 In Bid To Unseat Scott Brown In Massachusetts

WASHINGTON -- It's looking like former consumer advocate and Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren has the golden touch when it comes to fundraising.

The Democrat's campaign to oust Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) hauled in $5.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2011, or nearly double the $3.2 million raised by Brown in the same period.

Warren launched an exploratory committee in mid-August, and declared her candidacy in mid-September, raising $3.15 million that quarter. The ex-Harvard professor's combined take gives her nearly $9 million in four months.

While Warren's torrid fundraising pace puts her on the path to becoming the top buck-raker of the 2012 race after the White House contestants, Brown's skills at passing the hat are not shabby. After the last quarter, he had an impressive $12.8 million in the bank for what is shaping up to be the most costly Senate battle in the country.

Warren's campaign has not revealed how much of that $9 million she has spent, so it's unclear how far she has to go to catch up to Brown in overall funding.

Still, having banked more than the $8.5 million Brown grabbed in all of last year, Warren is likely to catch up and is raising cash at a rate that compares to that of Hillary Clinton in her last Senate race before she aimed at the White House.

Republicans have already tried to turn Warren's fundraising prowess against her, using it to cast the incumbent Brown as the underdog in the race and arguing that the famously anti-Wall Street Warren inevitably receives some of her money -- or the money that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spends on her behalf -- from the financial industry.

However, so does Brown, and Massachusetts is an expensive advertising state that will require both to spend heavily. Brown and his Democratic opponent, Martha Coakley, together spent $20.6 million in the 2010 special election.

Luke Johnson contributed reporting.

Update 6:30 p.m.: This story was updated to include the start of Warren's exploratory committee.

All Elizabeth Warren had to do was announce her candidacy. That announcement created a flood of contributions that apparently has not let up. Nationwide, there is a recognition of her inherent worth, the value of this woman to our country. And, many out of state contributions are no doubt made in anticipation of her 2016 run for the presidency. Ger her in office. Get her some more national exposure and then  Read More...

Yes, we need more lawyers in politics. They are so much better at making laws than the teachers who show such compassion to our youth. Teachers are too compassionate for the hard work of governing and slashing programs for the less fortunate. (NOT)

As a former republican voter, I have learned much since the days of the 2000 election. When political parties slap a label on someone that they fear or don't like, it simply makes me stand up and pay attention to what that person says and stands for. I no longer dislike a candidate because some talking head tells me to, I do have a brain that works quite well and I can decide on my own after some research. Elizabeth Warren is one of those few people who really means what she says, intellegent and cares about fixing America's problems and is worth listening to...

If you don't think Bush's election contributed to the destruction of the Republican brand, you are deeply mistaken. A lot of people transitioned to independents following it. For my part, that was around when I thought both parties were equally bad. Following Bush's election, the importance of not choosing the greater of two evils was seared into the mind of every person who uses it.

And I supported John McCain for the 2000 election cycle. While I still don't doubt he'd have been 10 times the president Bush was, he's certainly revealed himself to be far less of a man than I'd thought.

As to this day I am nor for either party. I believe in one thing, and that is the Constitution. Neither Party really cares about anyone but their own selves and the people that put them in office. People that is really not the voters like you think. The electoral colleges as they call it does that work for themselves. Read up a little and get really mad. Certain people are put into place for this by certain people. Certain people control them. Next is the vote, which is counted about thirty different ways from Sunday, as they say. If the real truth be know, we should pick a person from a blue collar job and put his butt in office. These career politicians need to find themselves a real J.O.B. and quit riding the working man to death like a horse. BUT NOOO! Every one is hollowing about those who are a Democrat's or Republican's, I really don't think the American People are catching on to what's happening. The Democrat's are raping us and the Republican's are screwing us, so we're getting it going and coming. Get rid of them all and put some Good People in that really do work! God Bless America!

Actually; mijliles did make one point that should be included for consideration….
Rather than have career politicians running the show; how about someone from the ‘working middle class’ Say like a single mother of three who as learned to manage keeping her job; stretching her household budget to meet the needs of her family; and has learned to compromised to achieve the needful things in life. Or even the married man who has learned working three part time jobs to support his family is better than relying on anyone else to do it for him.
I would say the majority (maybe all) middle class workers cannot even dream of running for a federal office; because they can not support themselves (and family) during the campaign season (now running into years) – and if they do campaign and happen to lose; obtaining a livelihood for after they lose.

To continue on this same thread… Look at McCain he spent at least two years campaigning for President (just the last time he tried) – he lost…. BUT where is He Now? Working as the Senator of AZ … just like the multiple years before….
Why is that? Why did he not have to “Give up His Seat†when he decided to run for President? Change some of these rules – and maybe you would get better candidates….
Like Warren!

Not really, http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/senate/ma/massachusetts_senate_brown_vs_warren-2093.html

Then scroll down to the second Polling Dat box.
There it gives Polling data over 2 different dates by first
PPP (D) 6/2 - 6/5 - Brown +15
PPP (D) 9/16 - 9/18 - Warren +2

UMass/Boston Herald 9/22 - 9/28 - Brown +3
UMass/Boston Herald 12/1 - 12/6 - Warren +7

While in yet a different Poll, Western NE College, Brown's lead fell from 17 to 3 over a period of months ening in 9/29 - 10/5

At the rate things are going, Warren should win by the biggest landslide in History. :)

It isn't just about the election. Warren would have been unable to speak about the issues as head of the CFPB. As a candidate for Senate, she is keeping the issues of financial fraud and how it harms the middle class very much alive and in the public conversation. The GOP would have been better off putting her in the CFPB. Now she is not only speaking, but she is poised to win a prized Senate seat.

When someone runs for office and raises multi millions to get elected to office ,Who exactly are they going to be beholden to? I will tell you it's not the average voter donating 10 or 20 bucks. It most certainly will be a special interest group that will receive the benefits. Not the average American.

I don't give a rat's backside WHAT side they're on. it sure would be nice if they could raise that kind of money to put back into the country and those in need instead of their own politcal campaign where if elected, they'll just keep sucking up our tax dollars for their own agendas & vacations.

Fox News invented fairness and balance, as if those two things were the goals of a news agency. The truth is rarely fair and balanced.
