Randall Terry Bringing Aborted Fetus Ads To Super Bowl

Randall Terry

First Posted: 01/11/12 05:45 PM ET Updated: 01/11/12 05:45 PM ET

Randall Terry, the anti-abortion activist who announced last year that he would challenge Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination, has resurfaced with a bigger platform to get his message out.

Terry is known for his gruesome ads featuring what look to be aborted fetuses, which have already hit the air in Iowa, and now they are coming to the Super Bowl if he can raise the funds. Television stations and affiliates are normally allowed to block indecent content, but Terry is exploiting an FCC loophole that prevents censorship of political ads within 45 days of a presidential primary or caucus. Christian News Wire reports that the ads will air in 40 markets whose primaries fall in that window after Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 5--should Terry get sufficient response from his fund-raising appeals. Here is an excerpt, via Slate, from a recent letter he sent his supporters:

We will reach TENS OF MILLIONS OF AMERICANS, and get enormous media coverage as well. And THAT, my friend, is what the babies deserve. And it is exactly what people like "Sophia" and The Abortion Gang who murder unborn babies dread. They FEAR Americans seeing the truth. Let's be a voice for the babies. I beg you to give right away to these Pro-Life Super Bowl ads. We only have a few days to book the ad, and to pay for them in advance in these cities.

Terry hatched the Super Bowl plan a year ago, as the Sunshine State News reported in January 2011:

Terry, who has backed graphic ads of abortion procedures before, hopes to run ads during the 2012 NFL playoff games, including the Super Bowl.

"America has never truly debated child-killing, because America has never truly seen child-killing," insisted Terry. "We will use FEC and FCC laws for federal candidates to bring America face-to-face with this massacre of the innocents."

Abortion has been a hot-button topic during the GOP primary season. Newt Gingrich somewhat inaccurately calls Mitt Romney "pro-abortion" in a new attack ad.

None of those aborted fetuses will ever be able to play football or carry a gun!

CNN has this story on their front page. The locations these ads will appear is listed on that article. My city isn't one of them, hooray!

Super Bowl Sunday is a big family day party. We aren't Terry's children...............we don't need his brand of education.
06:06 PM on 02/01/2012
Oh? Your family must understand that aborted fetuses can not carry weapons and the un-born and not yet conceived, like corporations, are people too!
07:07 PM on 02/01/2012
do you really believe that a 5-year old needs to see this ad? It's inappropriate.
12:09 PM on 01/22/2012
Best thing to do is let NBC know how you feel about this ad being run. GO HERE: http://www.nbc.com/contact/general/

This IS a business decision after all. Business breaks the rules all the time when it makes sense to the bottomline.

If he can get the money, hopefully, the Super Bowl organizers will show better sense than this nasty-piece of work.

support better access to contraception and sex education and there would be less abortion.

A abortion IS a horrible thing no women goes through with is lightly but in the end its the woman's body, her body her right. Without the stigma there would be less late abotrions

Anyway the fact is Eighty-eight percent of abortions occur in the first 12 weeks when by no strech of the imagination it could be called a baby

That's obscene. I would never vote for him for posting such pictures on the air. I hope this gets blocked.
I find this incredibly offensive; he's gaining fame and money by showing the bodies of these fetuses.
11:52 PM on 01/12/2012
It's odd to me that these pictures are described as "gruesome" and yet that is exactly what the butchering of a fetus is. I'm pro choice for showing the barbarian procedures for what they are....Gruesome!
11:30 PM on 01/13/2012
Is removing a tumor gruesome, because they are both non sentient clumps of biomass removed at the consent of the patient? This is a perfect example of the anti-intellectualism which is fostered by the pro-choice and religious rights movements. Its unfortunate that the FCC "forces" this on a news channel while ranting about the content of family guy.

Good for you Terry. Maybe the whole world who watches the Super Bowl will start to realize that we should stop killing babies. I SAY GO FOR TERRY WAY TO GO

Yes and you are willing to raise taxes to pay for the increased welfare, food stamps, crime rate that will come from these now born babies to women and families that do not want them or can afford them ?

It's sure is a warm and fuzzy fighting this fight for you pro-lifers, but you obviously have no idea on how to work the cause and AFFECT portion of your plan..

I don't care what your stand is on abortion, you don't resort to this. People don't ever listen to a maniacal, ranting lunatic. Besides, he is just exploiting the fetus's that he is trying to defend. I sure hope this joker gets blocked.

This will likely turn off many people watching the game. Its why the NFL was right to keep Rush Limbaugh from owning a team, and why Tim Tebow has so many detractors. People watch sports to get away from politics and religion, and inserting them bastardizes its purity.
12:17 AM on 01/13/2012
I think Tebow has detractors because he strikes a nerve in some people that don't want to take clean living seriously and he is so PRO LIFE!

I think the opposite is true, they like him b/c he's a square. They just don't like being preched to. If they did, then they would be in a church and not a stadium. Pro life? Good for him, most folks choose to stay out of others business though.

most radical "pro lifers" are men... and the great majority of those that want to put their laws into my uterus are men as well...wake up, Flossie!

the bible supported abortion, that was done by a priest, in god's name, in his holly temple!
the 1984 niv footnote of numbers 5:11-31 explained what "to thy thigh to rot, thy belly to swell" meant:
Numbers 5:21 Or causes you to have a miscarrying womb and barrenness” to CAUSE a miscarrying womb IS an abortion.

the judeo-christian god is a myth and historical evidence proves it.

this is the law:
ABORTION IS A CIVIL AND CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT SUPPORTED BY THE RIGHTS TO PRIVACY, THE EQUAL PROTECTION CLAUSE OF 14TH AMENDMENT, AND THE 13TH AMENDMENT.

no human has a right to life or any due process rights by the 14th amendment to use another human's body or body parts AGAINST their will, civil and constitutional rights: that's why you are not force to donate your kidney---the human fetus is no exception; this is protected by the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment that makes reproductive slavery unconstitutional.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal_Protection_Clause

consensual sex =/= a legal, binding contract for an unwanted fetus to live.
01:46 PM on 01/12/2012
Except for the fact that the human fetus is a human being, not an organ. Killing a human being is called murder, many laws condemn this. Nobody has the right to take another human life, NOBODY, it is not a choice anyone should have. The human fetus is no exception because it is a human being and not an organ and something that the free will of 2 participants brought into their life. The civil and constitutional rights you speak of were brought forth by the interpretation of 5 justices on the Supreme Court, 4 voted against it. This can be overturned and will be as a violation of the basic right of all, the right to live which trumps all other rights. Even after all this how can one ever argue how morally wrong it is to kill a baby, morals which you fail to mention. The Bill of Rights states every person has the right to the God given rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, every person, even those in the womb!! Have you ever thought of the baby even once, what about their rights?
04:47 PM on 01/12/2012
to justifiable homicide and capital punishment, doesn't exist in your world?

no human has a right to life or any due process rights by the 14th amendment to use another human's body or body parts AGAINST their will, civil and constitutional rights: that's why you are not force to donate your kidney---the human fetus is no exception; this is protected by the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment that makes reproductive slavery unconstitutional.

you do know that the DOI didn't stop slavery from happening, and you can even prove your god is real.

you have no point.

How do you feel about men who are forced to pay child support for children born because a woman didn't have an abortion after consensual sex?

If you don't want to pay, don't play!

this is science:
fetus (NOT A BABY, THEY ARE BORN…GOOGLE THE HUMAN DEVELOPMENT CHART) is a parasite because the classification of the biological relationship that is based on the behavior of one organism (the fetus) and how it relates to the woman's body:

as a zygote, it invaded the woman's uterus using its Trophoblast cells and hijacked her immune system by using Neurokinin B and using HCG—-so her body won't KILL it, and stole her nutrients to survive and causes her harm or potential DEATH!

wikipedia org/wiki/Trophoblast
wikipedia org/wiki/Immune_tolerance_in_pregnancy
wikipedia org/wiki/Human_chorionic_gonadotropin

"it is also possible for a symbiotic relationship to exist between two organisms of the same species."
answers com/topic/symbiosis —–Gale's Science of Everyday Things:
Symbiosis

"an animal or plant that lives in or on another (the host) from which it obtains nourishment. The host does not benefit from the association and is often harmed by it"
thefreedictionary com/parasite

pregnancy causes women harm: thelizlibrary org/liz/004

if a man can kill his tapeworm at anytime, so should a woman abort her unwanted human parasitic fetus at anytime, too.
01:55 PM on 01/12/2012
WOW!!!!!! WOW!!!!! you can twist words any way you want, calling a human fetus a parasite to ease your conscience. But here is the real fact, the fetus is human, cant be anything else. The fetus can be either dead or alive since it is alive it is a life making this a human life simply in its earliest form of development. The intentional killing of a human life is murder without question, cant even be debated. The human fetus, zygote, embryo or whatever term you want to give this human life was introduced into the woman by her free will, therefore can not be classified as a parasite and the mother does receive great benefit from carrying the fetus, reduced rates of many cancers to begin with plus she has a beautiful ife enter her life to love for the rest of her life, dont believe me, ask your mother..

I'm pro-choice, but you come off as very unscientific and uneducated when you call a fetus a "parasite," Even if it cannot live outside the womb, it does have human DNA, and by definition a prarasite is of a different species than that of the host. Again, I am pro-choice I'm not like "yay abortions are the greatest thing ever!!!" but I think more harm would be done without it. Are you going to strap a woman to a bed for 9 months? What about those who could resort to very unsafe measures and die of something like sepsis? Even for those who say that it should only be legal in cases of rape and incest, anyone could say they were raped and what makes those conceived so less worthy? In the end keeping abortion legal is the most reasonable thing to do.
