'Shipping Wars': Scott Runs Out Of Fuel, Has To Siphon Mid-Shipment (VIDEO)

Siphoning Diesel Mid-Shipment On 'Shipping Wars'

"Shipping Wars" (Tue., 9 p.m. EST on A&E) is a new series that takes a look at the fiercely competitive world of independent shipping companies. Competing online, these teams made up of larger companies and mom-and-pop shops fight to underbid one another and still turn a profit. But the world of trucking is more complex than some of them anticipated when they jumped in.

It's a brutal business, with the shippers scoring some great deals sometimes. They just have to hope their drivers are prepared for everything that might come their way. For Scott Bawcom, who usually runs a pretty tight ship, he found himself in trouble when he realized he was going to come up short on fuel. He then found himself begging another driver to let him try and siphon some diesel from his tank.

"I was desperate," he said later. And he got his delivery made in the end, but not before incurring a $2,000 penalty for being over the weight limit for his load. All those little details that matter in the shipping industry. Things can be looking great, but if any one is missed, it can wind up making the shipper lose money on a job.

The "Shipping Wars" continue each Tuesday night at 9 p.m. EST On A&E.
