Great news for "Star Wars" fans who've been anxiously waiting to see if the eagerly anticipated live-action television series will ever happen! It finally has a working title (drum roll, please): "Star Wars: Underworld."

"Star Wars" producer Rick McCallum revealed the title in an interview with IGN during which he said the oft-rumored series is very much still in development.

He confirmed earlier reports that the action will take place in the 20-year gap between the end of "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and the beginning of "Episode IV: A New Hope."

Set in the early years of the fledgling rebellion against the Galactic Empire the series will focus on the bounty hunters, criminals and gangs in the seamy side of the "Star Wars" universe. Confirming what George Lucas told reporters last year, McCallum revealed that producers already have 50 "incredible" one-hour scripts waiting to be filmed. He described them as "dark, complex and adult."

He added, "they are timeless because they take place in that 20-year period between 'Episode III' and 'Episode IV' when Luke is growing up -- it's not about Luke, but it's about that period."

Last year Lucas said that despite having at least two seasons of the new series already mapped-out, producers were hamstrung by financial concerns tied to such an ambitious project, and that they were "waiting for a different type of technology ... so it's economically feasible to shoot the shows."

McCallum went even further, saying "it would be suicide for us to do this [now]. So we are going to wait three or four years."

Echoing those sentiments to IGN, McCallum said the budget for each episode of the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy came in at "only" $100 million, which "in the world of Hollywood ... is nothing." So, he wondered, how can producers get the television budget "down to a cost that is commensurable with reality?"

He went on, "It's really tough because we're trying to do in one hour the same amount of effects and technology that a two-hour film has to do, and we have to do it every week. And try and do it for $5 million."

Arguing that the business model employed by television networks, coupled with the ever-present threat of cancellation for underperforming shows, is incompatible with the way George Lucas likes to do things, McCallum hinted that they could go it alone if they can figure out a way to make it financially viable.

Networks across the board have been slashing budgets, with even hit shows like "The Walking Dead" facing potentially game-changing reductions, so it may make sense for Lucas et al. to wait even longer before bringing "Star Wars: Underworld" to the small screen. Stay tuned for updates.

Just as long as someone editing the series actually opens his/her mouth about what seems dumb. You can't tell me everybody in the studio thought Jar-Jar was a great thing, or that the Twins from Transformers 2 were awesome ideas. Either you're hired because you're professional or the man making the movie disagrees with you. But please don't burden us without objecting. Get it on the record...or maybe I'm just being all lawyerly....ugh

I don't much like the CGI series... the original Clone Wars Series (2003-2005) with the cartoons (actual cartoons!) was so much better! I will watch this series, trust me I will, but I am not going to go without pointing out some flaws. George should have just done Revenge of the Sith for the prequels! I mean seriously that was the only prequel movie that was actually good! After that he would have been fine to retire and live out the rest of his days doing nothing but making more money!
Anyway! I will watch this show... if it ever happens!

I hope this will be good. I like Star Wars prequel and original trilogy. And I even wish someone will make new episodes or spin-offs. Episode 7-9 sounds nice. With better stories and better effects of course. I cannot wait to see this live-action.

If you read any of the Star Wars book theirs a author name Timohty Zahn who made one of the most popular Star wars books EVER. not to mention hes probably one of the greatest sci-fi writers still around. i own the 3 books something to do with a grand Admiral thrawn and the New Repuiblic fighting the Empire and some Jedi Master.

point is good series and if they were to make episode 7-9 base it off those 3 books.

You know I hate to say this but I can't wait till Lucas dies. Then Star Wars will be out of the Wounded Kings grip and new bodies can take up its mantle and really do some amazing things with it.
A perfect example is The Star Wars: Clone Wars by Genndy Tartakovsky, not the current one on tv but the one that came out as a "Micro-Series" back in 2003 between episodes II and III. It is bar none my favorite Star Wars....thing since episode V. Word is that Lucas was pissed that it made episodes I and II look like Film School Schlock, its just that good. Even makes Anakin not look like a Wuss and shows his Fall.

Hey! Someone who actually knows of the Clone Wars series! If George had nothing to do with the prequels... or as little as he did in The Empire Strikes Back! Those movies would have been perfectly fine!
In my opinion and in my opinion only! The only prequel that you actually need to watch is Revenge of the Sith because it is the only one that can be close to comparison with original trilogy!
Anyway enough of my ranting!

Just make the final 3 sequels before the actors are too old. All could play their parts except Carrie Fisher as she ruined her face with surgery. An older Han would work out great I think.

Probably not unless Lucas gives up control over Star Wars. Although everyone has a price and Lucas will make them if someone pays him enough.

What Star Wars needs is an adaptation of Timothy Zahn's novels. Grand Admiral Thrawn and Mara Jade deserve big-screen (or even little-screen) outings.

Ok, please don't make it look too Star Trek Deep Space 9, and I'm pre-ordering the series already. Don't make it look too TV-ish. You can do this. If you need help or consultation, just give me a holler. Thanks, and may the Force Be with You !
