Cameron Brenneman, 12, Dies After Being Hit By Sister's Truck

Girl Hits And Kills Brother With Truck As Classmates Watch

UPDATE: A report by the Orlando Sentinel says authorities believe Cameron got in the truck, but had not fully closed the door before Malecki began to pull away. Lieutenant Kenny Hayes told the paper the sister may have gotten startled and pushed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing Cameron to be thrown from the truck. Criminal charges against Malecki have been ruled out, but authorities have yet to decide if she will be cited for a traffic violation.

Tragedy struck Ormond Beach Middle School Wednesday when 18-year-old Mckensie Malecki lost control of her truck and accidentally killed her brother, 12-year-old Cameron Brenneman, while he was waiting to be picked up from the Florida school, WFTV reports.

Brenneman was waiting in a cul-de-sac with around 30 of his peers when his sister's truck crashed into him as other students watched in horror.

"She got out of the truck and she went and grabbed Cameron and picked him up," Nick Gugger, one of Brenneman's classmates, told the station. "I cried for maybe an hour ... I don't think I'll ever forget that."

Grief counselors will be at the Florida middle school to help students cope with the loss.

Malecki's truck hit Brenneman before striking another vehicle and crashing into a concrete utility pole, Central Florida News 13 reports.

Following the accident, Brenneman was immediately taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, investigations are still underway to determine why Malecki lost control of the truck.
