Snow In Chicago: Documenting Decades Upon Decades Of Winter Weather (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: The History Of Snow In Chicago

Though Thursday's snowfall marked the first significant snowfall of Chicago's surprisingly mild winter, the maximum eight inches of snow expected to fall pale in comparison to the most intense winter storms the city has played host to in the past.

Beyond last year's "snowmaggedon," the city has seen blizzards as serious as the 23 inches of snow that fell in the area January 26-27 in 1967, according to the National Weather Service. Just over twenty-one inches of snow fell on Chicago just after New Year's in 1999 and toward the end of March in 1930, 19.2 inches of snow fell in the city.

Below we've pulled together a gallery of photographs documenting snowfall in the city dating back to 1902 through present day. If you have other photos or other memories of snowfall in the city from yesteryear, be sure to give us a shout at chicago@huffingtonpost.com.
