The Magnetic Fields' 'Andrew In Drag' Plays With Gender Roles (AUDIO)

The Magnetic Fields' Return With Another Love Song

For the writers of 69 Love Songs, no boy-meets-girl-falls-in-love song formula will do. This time around, The Magnetic Fields are playing around with gender roles on "Andrew in Drag. The unrequited love song puts others to shame when you hear frontman Stephen Merritt crying out, "The only girl I ever loved is Andrew in drag."

Their forthcoming 10th album, Love at the Bottom of the Sea, is out March 6 on Merge records, which they haven't worked with since 1999's 69 Love Songs. The songs here will all be ditties -- Merritt notes that none are over three minutes.
