On January 24, the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club -- an LGBT politically active group better known as the Milk Club -- is expected to elect drag queen Glendon "Anna Conda" Hyde as the new club president. The appointment will mark the first drag queen president for the club.

Hyde, a famed entertainer, is heavily involved in local politics and ran for District 6 Supervisor in 2010. During the campaign, Hyde promoted progressive issues including the decriminalization of homelessness, taxation of non-medical cannabis, citywide rent control, affordable housing, safe injection sites and AIDS prevention and promotion of nightlife, arts and culture.

"It's a great city," she said in a video interview while campaigning. "It's really allowed me to open up and have a more fulfilling life. That's why I want to be part of defending it."
