Obama Celebrity Surrogates: Campaign 'Wish List' Includes Clooney, Jay-Z, will.i.am, Alba & More

President Obama is looking to add a whole lot of star power to his re-election campaign.

Obama was joined on the campaign trail and supported by a huge stock of Hollywood stars four years ago, and his campaign staff last month put together a sprawling list of notable names that they'd like to see serve as surrogates and activists for the President as he looks to stave off the eventual Republican nominee. The Tennessean obtained the list, which was dated December 5th, and published it on Thursday.

Amongst the 190 names on the list are a number of stars that were very vocal supporters last cycle: will.i.am, Jay-Z, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Eva Longoria, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Olivia Wilde.

Not all of those on the wish list plan on helping out, though; country band Lady Antebellum's publicist said that she was surprised to see the group on the list, and that "the band has never commented on their political affiliations nor do they plan to in the future."

Absent from the list is Matt Damon, who campaigned for Obama in 2008 but has become a vocal critic of his educational and Wall Street policies. The President has received less in donations from Democrats in Hollywood at this point in this campaign than he did during the last one, and his team has assigned an ambassador to help raise support and plan fundraisers for the President in Los Angeles later this year.

At one point, it was speculated that the President wanted to avoid being seen publicly with stars, though clearly that is no longer the case. On Wednesday, he even greeted Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt at the White House.

I think Pres. Obama should seek Uggie's endorsement!!! This adorable 4-legged star from "The Artist" movie would be a tireless advocate for all things animal - including a "ruff" debate on whether Mitt Romney's dog should be relegated to riding on the roof of the car on a 12-hour road trip!

I am still voting my conscience! And the only "stars" I get excited over are the ones I can see in the sky. As one knows, fame is fleeting!

He's a bit of a hypocrite. He's adamantly against legalizing marijuana, which means he wants just about every hip hop fan out there to end up in jail with a criminal record. But he still wants all those same people to vote for him. That's why he wants Jay Z in his campaign.

You either want their votes, or you want them in jail. Pick one of those two options, Mr. President, and stop trying to have it both ways.

But the Republicans are even worse. They want to sound hip by putting rock music in their campaigns. Rock music that was created by pot smokers, to be used in a campaign by Republicans who want all pot smokers in jail. Uh huh. Right.

They want to co-opt the rebel image but they want the rebels to all go to jail where they belong.

It doesn't matter to me which celebs are rooting for President Obama, I'm voting for him regardless.

Movie Stars are not of the "Idle Rich" ilk and are more empathetic than the "right wing" ilk................

Both salubrious and lugubrious concurrently.

I suppose Rick Santorum can always call on Chuck Norris and that less famous Baldwin brother.

"Nikes", not "Nike's". You don't use an apostrophe to indicate plurals.

I haven't seen a lot of movies/music in the past especially with George Clooney, Barbara Streisand, Oprah, Tom Hanks, Richard Dreyfuss, Baldwin, Tina Fey, etc. Sure I missed a lot of "good" movies but I don't want my money that goes to them going to some one like Obama. I also haven't watched a Oscar, Golden Globe or any other awards program because I don't want to be lectured by the "elite" about who I should vote for or how they feel about a particular political person or event that has taken place. There job is to entertain not spew their political standing.
01:19 PM on 01/18/2012
There are plenty of "elites" on the other side who have come out in favor of conservative candidates.
There was the late Charlton Heston and his over-the-top NRA activism. There are Chuck Norris, Tom Selick, and Jon Voigt - to name a few more.
04:14 PM on 01/18/2012
Yep, I agree but the rumor if it can be believed is that many of these "elites" are basically black balled in hollywood. I think that there a lot more rep. but they are quite. I'm ok with that. Even if they are dems or independ. and they do their job and entertain and not use their stage to voice their "political" opinions to the general public that is great with me. There was a time when a persons vote was private. Sometimes I long for those days.

Obama you have my vote over the Herman Cains in the GOTP party.

Check out the Kansas article of Mr. O'Nell sending President Obama a death threat.
Coming from who else? The GOTP.
12:53 AM on 01/15/2012
And not one single democrat has ever issued a death threat or death wish on any republican? It's not right for any one to do that. But before you point your finger at those mean old reps wanting to kill Obama just realize that three more fingers are pointing back at you.
01:43 AM on 01/15/2012
Send me all your death threats from Democrats.
The GOTP have hated President Obama before he got elected. McCain would say "THAT ONE"" during the debates. Here is 1/2 black man raised by a single white Mother and went to Harvard and was President of their Law Review. At age 44plus he decides to run to run for POTUS and wins.
He inherited two wars and a trilion dollar mess from the Former Joker.
This President is highly intelligent and the GOTP know it and hate it.
By slamming his middle name and using constant lies about him.
We are smarter and the see the GOTP for who they are.
Using a Bible as a crutch is dumb but so are the GOTP evil.

Sending death threats to our sitting President will be remembered. You did not read the article. Your post has been returned to sender.

That's because only the rich celebrities can contribute...the rest of us have nothing...lol
08:48 PM on 01/16/2012
It's not just the rich celebrites that are pouring money into Barak Obama's campaign pot. What about those top executives of banking, brokerage and insurance companies that got multi-million dollar bonuses from the Billions of taxpayer dollars Obama gave them?

The there's that American hater billionaire, George Soros...

And could it be that Obama bowed to a Saudi King for hidden financial support?
09:38 PM on 01/14/2012
Not a celeb, but im voting for Obama ;)
