Golden Globes 2012 Headbands: Do Or Don't? (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 01/15/12 09:06 PM ET   Updated: 01/15/12 09:06 PM ET

We saw several trends on the red carpet tonight, from a bevy of strapless beauties to oodles of nude dresses. But a small but powerful trend caught our eye: headbands.

(True, there were only about three headband-wearing stars that we saw. But in fashion, three's a trend, non?)

Michelle Williams, her BFF Busy Phillips and scene-stealer Charlize Theron all accented their hairstyles with headbands, Busy's in thin plastic and Michelle and Charlize's made of wide fabric.

Headbands tend to be a more casual style, but we've seen some celebs (including January Jones at the 2010 Globes) pull it off with aplomb. How do Michelle, Busy and Charlize do?

The head bands are kinda stupid. It's like wearing a tiara.

Last one: don't.. too much. smaller would have been more elegant.

It's the photo. It didn't look that bad on TV.

Headbands are nice & a necessity with the 'right style'. They all look adorable.

Dress color isn't very important to me, but seeing Reese Witherspoon and others with the messy hair look makes me think, why put all the effort into a gown and not do something classy with your hair. I'm sure it's some hair dresser's idea of "in" but it looks like they ran out of time and didn't bother with their hair

I agree. Totally hated the messy hair look. Looks like they got out of the shower, towel dried their hair and left home.

Fashion does matter to the average American woman. I think the headbands are great. I'm having my hair cut today in a style that will accommodate one.

Don't like the head bands, make woman look like they forgot to comb their hair.

Who Cares?

This is not an original idea. We wore headbands in the 60s. Matter of fact, I've seen a couple other fashion trends from the 60s on the rich and famous lately: something called the "pouf" (we called it the beehive), and the princess line dress. That was a staple in Jackie Kennedy's wardrobe, and pretty soon everybody was wearing it. Is the pillbox hat next?

Nothing new under the sun, dear!
The pillbox, yikes! I must say I have seen some stupid tiny hats as hair adornments lately that make women look like they're wearing the hat off a circus monkey.

Who cares, or who really does care and why? They are making millions and so many people who need a life of their own are all over this. Why this is such news is indicative of our decadent society.

As long as it works with the outfit, go for it. Charlize Theron looks best. That dress and her entire look is sweet and fresh.

I think all three headbands worked in context of the entire looks.
