Lindsey Wilson College Buzzer Beater: Announcer Goes Crazy When Chase Spreen Hits Shot

Announcer Goes Absolutely Nuts After Buzzer Beater

Hyperbole is a much-needed tool in the sports announcer's arsenal. Exaggeration can be used to ratchet up the drama in a drab game or to add some spice to a matchup. Even so, it is not advisable for someone calling a game to lightly refer to plays or persons or events as the greatest or best of anything.

Unless, of course, you really mean it. Unless, clearly, you're the announcer calling this 3/4-court game-winning shot by Chase Spreen to lift Lindsey Wilson College over Georgetown college in a Mid-South Conference basketball game.

Trailing by two points with just two seconds remaining, a Georgetown player (no, not that Georgetown) was at the line. He missed both shots. After Spreen grabbed the rebound of the second missed free throw, he took a few dribbles out toward the free throw line on his defensive end of the court and then pushed a long, desperation shot toward the far rim as he took off from the charity stripe. From there the ball and the broadcaster did the rest.

"Half court.. full court.. shot.. GOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDD!!!!! OOOHH MY GOD! OH MY GOSH! HE HIT IT FROM THE FREE THROW LINE ON THE OTHER SIDE. UNBELIEVABLE! IT'S THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE SHOT I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE"

The game-winning shot was the culminating moment in a 19-point comeback and, quite clearly, the announcer calling the game for the Lindsey Wilson Sports Network was impressed. The rest of the sporting public was at least as impressed by the call as the play. The highlight was eventually featured on Sportscenter on ESPN and has been racking up the views on YouTube.

While there has been -- and will continue to be -- plenty of miraculous, last-second buzzer beaters for hoops fans to thrill to, it's possible that THIS IS THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE CALL I'VE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE!

CORRECTION: The headline in an earlier version of this story incorrectly identified Chase Spreen, the Lindsey Wilson player who made the game-winning shot.
