National Republican Congressional Committee Mocks Rachel Maddow In Ad (VIDEO)

WATCH: Republicans Mock Maddow In New Ad

The National Republican Congressional Committee used its latest ad against President Obama to mock Rachel Maddow.

The ad challenges President Obama to move ahead with the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline project. It mocks Maddow's actual "Lean Forward" ad for MSNBC, where she stands in front of the Hoover Dam talking about the demand for infrastructure jobs. The NRCC's version is titled "Lean Backwards."

The ad features a Maddow lookalike in glasses, a gray hoodie and a brunette wig in front of the same backdrop. Ironically, it uses Maddow's argument for government-backed infrastructure projects to push for the pipeline. "We’ve got a project like this waiting for the President’s go ahead –- supported by Republicans and Democrats, labor unions. It’d provide energy security and up to 130,000 jobs," the lookalike says.

NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay explained the decision to reference the MSNBC host in a statement on Tuesday. "Even Rachel Maddow should be able to understand the benefits of a project like Keystone XL, which not only can help with our country’s energy needs but also has the potential to bring tens of thousands of jobs to a struggling American economy,” he wrote.

Maddow has proved an irresistible target for Republicans in the past. Senators Marco Rubio and Scott Brown have both gone after her in fundraising campaigns.
