Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson Agrees With Newt Gingrich, Says He Would Send Blacks Back 'To The Plantation'

The Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, the super-conservative African American Republican who has campaigned vigorously against Kwanzaa ("The Racist Holiday From Hell" he has called it), the Rev. Jesse Jackson Jr. and President Barack Obama, said he has a simple solution to black America's employment woes: hard labor.

"One of the things that I would do is take all black people back to the South and put them on the plantation so they would understand the ethic of working," Peterson told The Huffington Post's Black Voices on Tuesday afternoon. "I'm going to put them all on the plantation. They need a good hard education on what it is to work."

Peterson made the remarks after he was asked to comment on Monday night's sparring between moderator Juan Williams and Newt Gingrich, during the Republican presidential debate after Williams asked Gingrich whether he thought his recent statements suggesting a lack of work ethic among poor black kids could be viewed as insulting.

"People don't want to hear the truth," said Peterson, the founder of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, or BOND. "Newt was 100 percent correct," Peterson said. "Newt said that he would have black children, minority children work as janitors at school. Working as a janitor would build character, more so than the handouts so many of them like."

"I know some people take it personally because a whole lot of folks don't like hearing the truth; they like to be in denial," he added. "Not all black people, but most black people know, and white people know, and black people say it more in private than they would in public, but for the last 50 years or so, generations and generations of black people have relied on the government or someone else to take care of them."

"Many black women have had babies out of wedlock and passed that on to their daughters that if they have babies out of wedlock, they'll get food stamps, free houses and your rent paid," Peterson said.

Peterson, who was raised on a plantation in Alabama where he said generations of his family worked first as slaves and then sharecroppers, said he learned to have a strong work ethic by doing such backbreaking work as picking cotton.

Day in and day out, it was the same thing: get home from school, eat supper, change clothes and get into the cotton field, he said.

Nearly 30 years ago Peterson left the plantation and headed West to California. But today, he said, millions of blacks are on the mental "plantation" of the Democratic Party. To fight back, he said, he formed the Tea Party of South Central Los Angeles. Considering this is black and Latino neighborhood where residents have traditionally voted Democratic, it might be an uphill battle.

"I hope that once [black people] hear the truth, they will pull away from the Democratic Party and their godless leaders," Peterson said in a recent interview with HuffPost. "When you tell them the truth first, they become upset ... They think if you're black and conservative, you're an Uncle Tom. Once you let them yell and scream and carry on -- because they will carry on -- and when they calm down, they understand."

This lowlife is an insult to the human race, period. No person, whether white, black, brown, red, or yellow, should give any of his insanely ignorant words credence. He's simply not worth it.

From what I can see, this faux minister hasn't got a church. He has an organization he's purported founded. So the only relevance I can see is that his skin is brown and he can take his antics to the media that wants him to perform in a way that meets their agenda. Black people have managed to survive only by working hard. Even college educated people know that they have to work, perform twice as hard in order to be seen as performing at all. And with today's job market, where the unemployed are deemed unemployable, what is the actual remedy. But Peterson definitely is pandering to those who enjoy the stereotype.

He says people don't like hearing the truth, well the truth is that he's a House N___er who's mind hasn't left the plantation. I would like to know more about his congregation, I find it very difficult to believe that a room full of African Americans are going to sit and listen to this garbage for a minute.

Actually, Rev. Peterson's concept is not a bad idea, but ONLY if the Black families that go to the "Plantation" collectively OWN IT!

I am a Black women, I worked for corporate America for thirty years. It didn't matter how efficent or how much knowledge I brought to the job, I was never paid accordingly. White folks were lazy in their job performance, and 60% of the work time in meeting or on there computors e mail jokes back and forth to other lazy White folks. And all that time I worked they were setting traps for our Black Children through the Drug Market. Now you whites folks stand back and say look, they don't want to work. But you know you can't set a trap without you own Children falling into the same trap. and the biggest of your Children don't want to work.

Then, of course, there is the stellar example of Mitt Romney.

queengj, I hope you don't mind when you hear white people make racist comments, because YOU ARE A RACIST. As a hard working WHITE person I am just as disgusted with your comments as you would be if I said the same thing about blacks. "... they were setting traps for our Black Children through the Drug Market". Huh? What are you talking about???

I'm a black man who takes great offense at the nonsense the you are spouting. To blame all white people for these ills is just as bad as someone white blaming all black people for what one does. I find what you have to say insulting and I don't know why they allowed it to be posted. Your and idiot who needs as heavy dose of truth.

... or maybe it's the media (Huffington Post stand up) stirring up non-news to rile up the public.
Grain of salt my peoples. Folks need to be less reactionary and more critical. Who is this peterson? How valid is his point? Who is the author? What's his motivation for writing this. This story isn't even worthy of repeating at the water cooler. (An if this doesn't get deleted, I'd be very surprised.)

Here are some solid facts that state Peterson's case from studies that use actual US census data. ( not some hokey hoopla web site)

At the fifth and sixth page you see a 2003 chart that does show more white than black families get assistance in only %100 poverty level. The %75 poverty level and higher income earners more black families are under assistance. It shows more white families use it but clearly need it.

https://resources.oncourse.iu.edu/access/content/group/SP10-BL-POLS-Y490-26253/schram-contextualizing%20welfare%20policy.pdf

This study shows there is a growing trend that shows shrinking use by whites and Hispanic families and increasing black household recipients.

I think Peterson is attacking black families that grew up on public assistance and then the children and their grandchildren continue this habit of dependency on govt social programs. Bad thing is it gives power to the politicians that create these programs and it creates an enslaved voter base.

There are so many self-loathing (black people who hate themselves and their black skin.) They don't understand that when the revolution starts, race genocide and race wars, and they are coming; they will be the first to go. Just like Hitler did in Germany.

I believe the conditions will be similar to Antiochus Epiphenes' destruction of the black Hebrews or the period of Titus and his slaughtering of the Jews during AD 66-70. He's a preacher, let him look it up! "And Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled"Matt. 24. Thousands of Black Hebrews were slaughtered by White Romans while others were sold and scattered throughout the world. This time, the butcher will pose as a friend, Gentile, someone you'll trust, someone sympathetic to your causes, and he will turn on you. Mr. Peterson exhibits his plantation mentality and Hannity along with a litany of other conservatives feed into it. He's the typical house N...... They all know it... Newt, Rush, Shawn, J.C Watts, Bill O, Rupert, and the rest of the boys. Returning to the plantation, sounds like a marvelous idea. Now i'll finally get my 40 acres and a brand new mule!

Statistics show that there are "many, many, many" moe whites on welfare and the system and there "ever" will be blacks.

Peterson needs to re-read today's welfare recipients and talk to the masses about "hard work". What it took for him to become "whatever he is" may not take the same for the rest of this race.

I highly resent his article and lack of respect for the President of our country. When Blacks read that ....... where do we go from him??????

I was wondering if you have a govt based web site backing up those statistics that takes into consideration the populations race/ratio?

The comment Peterson made as far what Gingrich said was inaccurate, Gingrich said "poor kids" not " black children, minority children" . Notice Trymain Lee (author of article) does not extend a courtesy and state that Peterson misquoted Gingrich's statement.

Here is an alternate news source on this article to compare.
http://rt.com/usa/news/black-rev-peterson-gingrich-139/

Personally I think Peterson is attacking black families that grew up on public assistance and then the children and their grandchildren continue this habit of dependency on govt social programs. Bad thing is it gives power to the politicians that create these programs and it creates an enslaved voter base.

When I was growing up in western Mass in the 70's my parents were eligible for food stamps and public assistance but turned them down because they really did not need it. They knew how to budget and we got by just fine. If you can do it without help you show your children how to "earn their keep" builds personal pride, character and makes you a stronger person in the long run. Peterson's tactic is a bit crude, he might be better serving the people he wants to help by creating and or teaching people how to budget and plan their life. It is better than just throwing money at the problem.

His personal bio is revealing--very clarence thomas-like http://www.bondinfo.org/content/abouthome

He says that he doesn't accept money from the government (but gifts are tax deductible) an indirect government contribution. He asks for cash and other donations--clothes, cars, cameras, and computers.

Flip through the links. You see him speaking to a white crowd. His congregation is small One of his books (approved by hannity) is at almost 265,000 on the amazon list the other is at over 4 million.

This guy makes me recall an experiment that was taken about how racism begins if not stopped. A Jewish man makes racist comments to a group against other Jews, and no one opposes him. Thus, the Jews from the holocaust reported that their greatest mistake was not to challenge the discriminatory practices that went against them. They acquiesced their lives. So, Black people must learn from that, and challenge discriminatory ideas and not be polite!

Reverend Peterson should be ashamed of himself!

Well rather than attack Peterson for his comments see for yourself if he is telling the truth. Go out on your own and do your best to find factual US census statistics and poverty statistics that are accurate and current (as he did).

Peterson's methods are a bit crude, but have a point. Instead we should work to educate kids when they are young to learn how to budget their income, make wise living decisions and plan for their future. Then all of us will thrive and be stronger people not mad at each other.

As far as comments I seen where more whites are on welfare than blacks. Okay but most of those white families have household incomes less that $10,000 a year. When you compare better off families that have greater household income, those better off families are much greater percentage of black families.
