Detroit Number 9 On List of Top 10 American Downtowns

We're No. 9! We're No. 9!

Oh, the pleasures of a good top ten list. At HuffPost, we certainly adore a good list.

But hasn't Detroit become the star of one too many? Curbed Detroit recently compiled the Motor City's honors in 2011, from the best (affordable, fastest-growing job market) to the worst (dangerous, miserable).

A new "award" on TopTenz.net puts Detroit at No. 9 on a list of Top 10 American Downtowns.

Top Tenz has also crowned Detroit in other more intriguing (and offensive) lists, like Top 10 Worst Sports Teams, Top 10 Goalie Fights, Top 10 Unexplained Disappearances.

It's hard to say no to the Top Downtown praise, but the dubious honor of having a downtown with "vacant buildings and a frequent dearth of foot traffic" isn't much to brag about and leaves us questioning the selection criteria. And we wonder about Top Tenz' fact checking: Chrysler and Ford's headquarters, or as the article calls them, "legendary automobile manufacturing meccas," are not located in the Detroit's "downtown core," but in Auburn Hills and Dearborn. GM is the automaker in the Ren Cen.

We'd really like to know who the diligent pursuers of truth in the form of "Tenz" lists are. Who do we email about ranking Boston ahead of Detroit?
