Governor Christie: If New York Giants Win Superbowl, Parade Should Be In New Jersey

First Posted: 01/18/2012 9:36 am Updated: 02/ 8/2012 5:13 pm

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie thinks that if the New York Giants win the Superbowl, the victory parade should be held in the Garden State and not the Big Apple. "They play in New Jersey. They train in New Jersey," the governor told Matt Lauer on The Today Show Wednesday morning, according to The New York Post. And when Lauer pressed Christie further, asking "What's it say on their helmets?" referring to the "NY" on the logo, Christie responded with "That's about it." The Giants beat the Green Bay Packers Sunday to advance to the NFC Championship against the San Francisco 49ers.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article stated that the Giants would play the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game.

If New Jersey is so cool, how come they charge tolls to get into New York but not the other way around?

This from a man who rooted for the Jets, not because he is a Jets fan, but because he is a Cowboys fan. Yeah, go figure, with two teams to choose from, his choice the Cowboys. Says a lot about him and his politics.
And for all of those out there, it is NEW Jersey, unless you were born here, it is NEW Jersey to you. Just like San Francisco. It is Frisco if you where born there.

Wait a minute! You can't afford to get the second rail tunnel built, but you want to throw a parade for a football team that doesn't have your state attached to teir name?
10:40 PM on 01/20/2012
LOL - I say the same thing... the guy finds money to spend bribing money to come to his state and to hold parades... but he killed a second rail tunnel which would bring more benefit to his state over the long run than anything else.

New Yorkers, don't get your hope too high and don't make plans for a parade. New Jersey Giants are gonna LOSE Sunday.

The neat thing is, that if you're wrong, you get to hide behind your screen name.

The parade WILL be in NY;However NJ is welcome to throw a second parade the NY GIANTS deserve both.....

I guess New Jersey has no other problems for the Gov to worry about? Maybe he should worrry more about the fact that he and a Ford F150 weigh about the same....

First of all, the people of NJ have to get it through their thick skulls that NJ is nothing more than NYC's side yard (with LI on the other side and Westchester/Yonkers as the backyard on prime waterfront property). What happens in NJ comes from the direct charity of the citizens of NYC. NJ would be nothing without NYC. NJ would be Utah or Wyoming without NYC. So, don't worry about where the NEW YORK Giants practice and play their games. If NYC had more space, NJ wouldn't even have been a consideration.

If anything, NYC should just go ahead and annex Northern NJ, parts of Westechester/Yonkers, and Long Island, create a 51st state and give Puerto Rico statehood to keep things nice.

At the end of the day, the Giants will always be a NYC team and when they win, the parade will be held in NYC.

If NJ wants a football team, the Jets are for sale. NJ can have them. And, NYC will throw in the Mets for good measure. Giants can retrofit that stadium in Queens that goes unused every time we have a baseball world championship.

You know the larges port on the Atlantic is in NJ? And that isn't because of NYC. Nearly all imports to the east coast and from Europe go through Port Newark-Elizabeth.

That doesn't help Giants management. No matter how we feel about either states, it's up to them to choose who they represent. But, the back and forth rivalry is fun. Then you talk about NJ ports and kinda kill the joy of the debate lol
10:43 PM on 01/20/2012
angelus - you are totally wrong... the port of Newark-Elizabeth is so busy precisely because of NYC... When the land in NYC became too valuable (back when it was the busiest port in the nation) the Port Authority of NY and NJ shifted it inland to the cheaper land in New Jersey. Likewise it happened with manufacturing and warehousing - then pharmaceuticals and finance. NJ benefits being next to NYC - NOT the other way around. That said - both need each other.

Gov Christie,
Don't the people of NJ need you to spend your time focusing on much mor important issues than this. Pay more attention to job growth and the well being of NJ than the NFL and where a parade is going to be held. Who cares (i'm a Giants Fan) but really who cares. Besides they havent got into the super bowl yet.
