A man recently married his deceased girlfriend in a combination funeral and wedding ceremony.

Chadil Deffy, also known as Deff Yingyuen, placed a ring on the finger of Sarinya "Anne" Kamsook, his girlfriend of 10 years, during the ceremony in Thailand's Surin province.

The couple had planned to get married in the future, but Yingyuen wanted to focus on his studies before tying the knot, the Thai-Asean News (TAN) Network reported.

Unfortunately, Kamsook unexpectedly died in an accident before the couple could set a date.

According to the Pattaya Daily News, the couple met at Thailand's Eastern Asia University nearly a decade ago, and wreaths were placed around campus in memory of Kamsook following her death.

Photos and footage of the ceremony were posted on Facebook and YouTube.

And while some thought the service a bit strange, others expressed their sympathy for the groom.

"...I didn't know her, but in your photos, she looks young and full of life. I can't image the impact her death has caused in the lives of her loved ones. It was a very moving gesture of love, very moving. It makes you rethink a lot of things in life, things you take for granted," Facebook user Alejandra Yanez wrote in Spanish on Yingyuen's page.

Onsiri Pravattiyagul, a friend of the groom, wrote an opinion column addressing Yingyuen's intentions and the media speculation his story has prompted. The piece, featured on the Bangkok Times, included the following:

Chadil wrote matter-of-factly online -- and would later give interviews in the same vein -- explaining that the motivation for this display was guilt, pure and simple: He felt he hadn't done enough for his girlfriend of 10 years while she was alive. Before her sudden death in a road accident, she had suggested that he marry her. But he had demurred, putting the idea on hold.

The "wedding" was his attempt to right a wrong, however belated the gesture might have been.

Hmmmm. Consider these two paragraphs:

"Chadil Deffy, also known as Deff Yingyuen, placed a ring on the finger of Sarinya "Anne" Kamsook, his girlfriend of 10 years, during the ceremony in Thailand's Surin province."

... and ...

"According to the Pattaya Daily News, the couple met at Thailand's Eastern Asia University nearly a decade ago, and wreaths were placed around campus in memory of Kamsook following her death."

The "10 years" of the first paragraph and the "nearly a decade ago" of the 2nd paragraph sounds a bit Van Wilderish to me. How long was he planning to "continue" his studies anyway - another 10 years? 20? As to the existence and longevity of their "boyfriend/girlfriend" status, we really only have his say-so (and the say-so of one of his friends) on the matter. Maybe he was stalking her and, personally, she couldn't stand the guy and had said "No!" to him on a number of occasions during that decade.

It would be interesting to hear from the bride's family on this - assuming she has living relatives.

If a man is going to marry a woman he does it in the first year or year and a half. Anytime longer then that he is bullshi**ing the woman. Very nice he marries someone who he does not have to commit to. I think he married her to appease what could be one angry spirit, from haunting him the rest of his days. She looks just like that thing in the movie "The Grudge" All those years stringing her along, Love at this point has nothing to do with this. I think he is scared with good reason to be.

Unfortunately, I think he did finally learn the correct lesson. Life is short - don't put things off.

Looks like something out of Beatle Juice. If only she could risen up at the last moment, and said, NOW you want to marry me??? Well, over my DEAD body!
10:52 PM on 01/24/2012
First of all you can't marry dead person since at this point they are not really people. Second, if he really loved this girl as much as he says he did he would have married her 8 years ago. It does not take men long to decide if you are the one or not. My husband married me in 4 weeks. We've been married four years. I feel he disrespected this girl in life and he is disrspecting her in death by taping this horrible "ceremony." Who taped this anyway? Some people are perverted and media hungry. I read somewhere he titled the film "Corpse Bride." This poor woman, to get her dream posthumously.

So sad

Oh get the violins out. Have you ever stopped to consider that the girl may have been the one holding things up? Just because you got married in a month doesn't make it right for anyone else. Where Im from they would think that was weirder than marrying a dead girl.

I agree it is suspect but take your man bashing elsewhere until you know the facts.

Oh yeah that's real weird, marrying a person four weeks after you met them and still being HAPPILY married after four years. I'd call that successful. And I'm not bashing men my husband is a wonderful husband and father and so are many of his friends.
Also it said in the article she wanted to marry him but he wanted to wait and finish his education(did you even read the article?)So I'm wondering does a college education take that long? Sounds like a slacker to me. In his education and love life.

Why marry the cow when you can get the milk for free for 10 years. Then when she dies in a car accident take the opportunity to make it in to a publicity stunt by marrying her dead body and putting the whole shebang on Face Book for the world to see. Yeah very touching. Yeah he was planning to marry her in the "future" maybe like another 10 years perhaps. He is an opportunistic pig not a grieving boyfriend. Take a good look at the picture she has her skirt all gussied up to show her garter belt... wow how romantic and touching.

Yeah touching but still creepy! Marrying a dead woman probably cold and stiff and has blacken arm and wearing minis... Just let her rest dude!

Ain't that just nasty? Creepy, borderlines on abuse of a corpse to me. Creeps me out to think what was on the menu that night. Eww.

I thought marriage was until death do us part, not at death do us start. Strange.

Ok, now that's sweet.

"Unfortunately, Kamsook unexpectedly died in an accident before the couple could set a date."

for crying out loud, they'd been dating for 10 YEARS !!! Talk about procrastination getting the better of the situation.....

I wonder if he gave her a life insurance policy as a wedding present....naming him as benificary...!!!
