Guys this is soo fake! Anyone with a camera and a basic torrented sound program can do this in 10 minutes. I'm a film student and you can't trust anything you see on screen because its all been altered. I made this one in ten minutes and if I spent real time on this project I could have made it real.

Maybe that is what a Fracking drill sounds like?

Spoofed or not, they are pretty creepy videos. Reminds me of the beginning of the last War of the Worlds movie.

Is it the sound of science and reason dying.

I love how the author of the article has to say "Conklin, Alberta, Canada", because Americans have no idea that Canada has provinces, or what those provinces are called. Yet they would never say "Casper, Wyoming, USA".

We don't really learn much about Canada in school...

But we are definitely "aware" of Canada. LOL

I've seen City, Province/State, Country written in a few online articles from across the globe. Mainly Canadian cities. Most of the world isn't aware of Canada's importance or lack thereof.

I'm reading the recently released "Exegesis of Philip K Dick" (it's hard to limit to description, I suggest checking out its Amazon page for a general idea of what it's about), and came across something interesting. Now, while these "sounds" might turn out to be one giant hoax, it seems like there are more than enough disparate reports that at least some of these might be legitimate (see Just Little Me below). What "it" might be, I have no clue. But get a load of this:

"Man as a species now ascends to a totally new level of intelligence, such as I experienced in 2-3-74. This will permit an articulation by the ecosphere that we will hear. This has never been the case before. I am saying that we will hear the voice of the ecosphere and we will enter into dialogue with it; Dio! "The voice of the ecosphere"! "We will hear it." This is Pere Teilhard's noosphere. This is not a disembodied voice or mind but speaks for all creatures.

Were it to signal us we would most likely experience - or rather seem to experience - the sort of uncanny "one-way" information intrusions such as occur in Ubik. It is aware of us and our involvement in it, but we are not; thus, where it deliberately signals us we would note the signal and react appropriately but have no notion - nor even perception - what - if anything - had done the signaling...(cont'd)

...(cont'd) It would be as if the palpable signal came out of an invisible yet tangent - i.e., immediate - source.

Not only is there no way to tell what the signal (stimulus) is arising from. There isn't even a where." (p. 822-823)

There's some more, and earlier he describes it as "the ecosphere cries out in pain." Again, this isn't the entire gist of PKD's "Exegesis" (it really is broad in scope, but focuses on investigating his "2-3-74" experience), but I was just struck with coming across this description (only yesterday) coupled with the timing of the "Strange Sounds" videos. While it may be a bit of a leap, I found it interesting nevertheless.

Phillip K Dick is one of my favorite authors as well, so much of his work is visionary when we look at the modern world, as depicted from over 60 years ago and see the parallels.

Good catch. This excerpt is weirdly relevant to the sounds. f/f

I wouldn't be too quick to write these sounds off as a hoax. I actually heard something very similar on my morning walk today. My husband was with me. We live in Toronto. We both stopped and listened for a while before it stopped altogether. It lasted maybe a minute. When we got home, I did some internet digging to see if anyone else had the same experience and found this Huffington Post article (along with a bunch of youtube videos). Many of the videos sound like what we heard. I mean it's possible that what we heard were the sounds of construction work in the distance, but truly it sounded a bit too otherworldly to be a regular city sound. Anyhoo, just my two cents.

Arriana, this article belongs in the SCIENCE category. Everyone will know why soon enough.

Just wondering if you can shed any light on this for me?

Something tells me it belongs in the GIANT, COORDINATED YOUTUBE HOAX category. But that's just me....

The problem is that even if it weren't a hoax, it is so easy to make realistic hoaxes nowadays that we'd never be able to tell the difference between a hoax and reality.
