A Chicago man was arrested Tuesday evening after police reportedly caught him surfing near Oak Street Beach.
Rex Flodstrom, 40, was cited for disorderly conduct, two counts of violating a Chicago Park District ordinance and one count of being in a park after hours, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Chicago's beaches are closed until May 25.
Police responded to the beach after getting a call about a man in the water around 5 p.m., when the lake was choppy and temperatures were dropping to the low 20s. The Chicago Tribune reports that officers didn't find anyone in trouble, but did find Flodstrom catching some waves.
The city closes its beaches during the winter for obvious reasons, including the fact that no lifeguards are on duty.
Flodstrom's surfboard was also confiscated.
