Seattle Weather: Closures And Delays Despite Less Snow Than Expected (PHOTOS)

Forecasters are calling for less accumulation in western Washington on Wednesday morning after predicting what could have been the snowiest Seattle weather in several decades.

Seattle's weather will not be entirely tranquil, however. Six inches may still fall in the city and parts of southwestern Washington could see up to eight inches, according to the Associated Press.

This diminished forecast may be welcome news for residents of Pacific Northwest cities like Seattle and Portland. Meteorologists were calling for severe weather in Seattle on Tuesday, with 14 inches expected in some areas.

With less snow now falling, it is unlikely that 1969's single-day record of 14.9 inches will be broken before warmer weather approaches Seattle later on Wednesday.

According to ABC News, the storm will still leave a mark on the city. Seattle snowfall normally peaks at around 5.9 inches annually.

Schools in and around the city cancelled Wednesday classes in advance and highway crews have been spreading salt in anticipation of heavy Seattle snowfall, reports the Associated Press.

By 6 a.m. Wednesday, snowfall and sloppy roads around Seattle meant Washington State Patrol was already dealing with a dozen accidents in two suburban Seattle counties.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill told The Seattle Times, "The driving conditions out here are terrible. My advice is if you have to go out, have a cell phone and pack a shovel and bring something to eat and something to drink, because if you slide off the road we may not get to you for awhile."
