Elizabeth Warren Money Bomb Raises $1 Million In One Day
The Elizabeth Warren money train just keeps on rolling.
The Harvard law professor and Democrat, who is running for the Massachusetts senate seat currently held by Republican Scott Brown, raised more than $1 million on Thursday alone in a coordinated "money bomb," the timing of which had special significance.
As Politico reports, the massive fundraising haul came two years to the day since Brown won a stunning victory in heavily Democratic Massachusetts, winning the seat held for decades by the late Ted Kennedy. Thursday also marked the official kickoff of Brown's 2012 campaign.
Warren appropriated Brown's 2010 campaign language to help her cause, telling supporters in an email--and blog post--that "it's time we take the 'People's Seat' back from Wall Street and other powerful interests."
As of 10pm Thursday night, the campaign had netted $1,091,560.
The million-dollar haul comes on the heels of a highly successful stretch for Warren. She raised $5.7 million in the final three months of the year, easily outpacing Brown's $3.2 million. Still, the incumbent, a Wall Street favorite, holds a 2-1 cash advantage.
A December poll showed Warren opening up a lead over Brown.
