A New York City police officer committed suicide while on duty Thursday night in Queens. The 28-year-old cop was found lying on 211th Street in Holls Hills, bleeding from a self-inflicted gun wound at 10:30PM, CBS News reports.

He was taken to the Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The officer, whose name is being withheld, had been responding to a call about a series of car break-ins, a police source tells The New York Daily News, "He got out of his (patrol) car and he's on the phone with somebody...He puts the gun in his mouth and fires."

According to investigators, the officer had been arguing with his girlfriend on the phone just before the incident.

"It's probably the prettiest block in Hollis Hills," a neighbor told The Daily News. 'This is the first time in 20 years I've ever seen something like this happen. It's awful."

Like i've been saying, "Psycho Sex-Cult"!

These people are being backed into a corner by the entire World of Organized "Law Abiding" Government, and they have "No Way Out". The Ruler Class and Royalty backed by the World Fortune have identified the United States, Great Britain, and France, also aided by conspirators in many other Nations, to be a "Kidnapping Threat" against them and their Relatives. That is why the U.S. lost all of its International Resource Contracts and have to borrow Money to operate, while shutting down in an organized fashion along with all the other failing System around the World.

Noone is worth your life. I'm sorry but I think suicide, in any case, is the coward's way out. Life isn't always great.... deal with it.

I COULD NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY SOMEONE COULD END THEIR OWN LIFE? PART OF IT IS NOT KNOWING WHAT AWAITING FOR YOU AFTER THE DEED IS DONE. DO YOU STAY IN PERGATORY? JUST WALKING AROUND LIKE A LOST SOUL? THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON AT ALL TO DO SUCH A DESPERATE ACT. LIFE IS PRECIOUS. ITS A GIFT FROM GOD. HE PUT US HERE FOR A REASON. WE SHOULD BE BLESSED TO HAVE THE EXPERIENCE...............^j^

This is such a sad story. I am so sorry this man was in this much pain and took his life. It doesnt matter he was on the job, he wasnt thinking of this his pain clouded his judgement. Now he is gone. A shame!

the death of any person is a tragedy. my prayers go out to the mans family and friends.

Why are police officers allowed personal cell phones and use while on duty.
This death may have been avoided without that dang phone call.
Or worse, the cop could have turned the gun onto an innocent bystander or a suspect.
Sorry he died but I am sure the family will sue NYCPD for everything they can including Workers Compensation, death benefits, pension benefits etc.
This cop may have had some hidden pscy problems that NYCPD needs to check their pscy profiles and dang quick.

Being a police officer is a job, not a prison sentence, a punishment or a wartime military post. The people who have that job, just like all other people, are entitled to have a personal cell phone.

A family does not have to sue for death benefits or the pension of a deceased relative. If a worker's family is entitled to them, they will get them.

Dead people are not eligible for Workers' Compensation.

ever think the car thief may have done this to him, with his weapon? Has anyone spoken to the girlfriend? Would a cop get out of his car, while responding to a call, on the phone?? too many crazy questions.
03:10 PM on 01/23/2012
Please...if there was ANY chance, no matter how slim that a cop was shot by someone else they would never admit suicide. It had to have been witnessed and verified or we would have heard all about it, guaranteed.

While I feel for his family, an unstable cop is like a lit stick of dynamite rolling down the street...better he off himself than shoot an innocent citizen, which has happened so often lately...murder by cop is quite common, and cops kill themselves occasionally. Maybe it was part his emotional weakness because of a female or his conscience got to him for past crimes against the people, or a combiantion.

Cops have must to feel guilty about: Perjury, false arrests, prisoner abuse and planting evidence, as well as illegal searches, which is a major problem, especially in NY, might actually cause some few cops with a shred of morality left to regret their crimes against the People...better him than one of us.

I think suicide is ok for those who can't cope. Does anyone really think its ok to think and feel for someone else?

A person who "can't cope" in the moment can find clarity and strength with proper support and treatment. Give them medical care first before giving them a gun.

I recently lost my uncle to suicide. He was 71 years old, had been a bodybuilder and lived a healthy life. But a few years before he killed himself his body started breaking down, he was suffering in a lot of pain and it wasn't getting any better. He talked about taking his life because he didn't want to wind up in a nursing home and he didn't want to suffer anymore either. So in his case I believe he did what was best for him and his own suffering. But in this case this young man had his whole life ahead of him, whatever it was that he was doing he should have been focused on his job not fighting with his girlfriend on his cellphone. My taxes pay for the police protection and when it's being used by officers to spend time talking to others in his personal life, then he isn't doing his job for which he was being paid for. My heart breaks for his family and friends, it really does. But he should have been doing his job. Had he just been doing his job with no cellphone he would be alive today.

Reminds me of the time I saw an SUV in front of my condo stopped in the afternoon. I was inside, had the t.v. on and heard this loud, "GET ON YOUR FACE". I knew it wasn't the t.v.. I looked out and saw what looked like a bunch of ninjas dressed in black with Mach weapons. And this guy was on his face. All of a sudden I hear a cell phone ring. The one cop standing over the guy answers it and says, "can I call you back, I'm a little busy right now". That was just as the house next-door rocked from the door blowing off the hinges. The cops detonated it. And all I'm thinking about is a cool new Verizon Commercial "Can you hear me now".

No matter what you think of police officers and what they do for a living, I hope you will at the very least say a prayer for this human who was in pain.

Even if this Officer had a borderline and probably undetected emotional problem it doesn't negate the fact that this guy was a cop taking in all the pressures of the job. The stress and everyday confrontations with the public is enough to send some people over the edge. Add personal problems and you have a catastrophe waiting for the right time to explode. It is a shame that most Earthlings look at the keepers of the peace and enforcers of our societal laws with more respect and understanding.

My heart cries for this Officer and Human. I pray for his loved ones. The only solstice I can find here is the fact that this NYC Police Officer now rests in the arms of Archangel Saint Michael. Where he is eternally protected and loved. May his GOD bless and rest his soul.

That was so well written. Thank you. People do forget that those who protect us sometimes come with the same problems that us have and in an instant snap at all the pressures. I'm sure if he had the chance to undo what he did he would have, but he didn't take the time to think it through. Police departments across the country might want to re-think their officers having personal cellphones while on duty, it can be the one distraction from doing their jobs that ends in a tragedy like this.
