01/22/12 09:25 PM ET   AP

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two guns thought to have been used by bank-robbing fugitives Bonnie and Clyde have snatched $210,000 at an auction in Kansas City, Mo.

The Joplin Globe () reported an online bidder from the East Coast on Saturday bought the weapons believed to have been seized from the outlaw couple's Joplin hideout in 1933. http://bit.ly/A9BRHg

Sold were a .45-caliber, fully automatic Thompson submachine gun – better known as a Tommy gun – and a 1897 Winchester 12-gauge shotgun. Mayo Auction, of Kansas City, was not given permission to release the name of the buyer.

Two law enforcement officers died during a shootout at the Joplin apartment where the couple and members of their gang were holed up, but all the members of the Clyde Barrow gang escaped.

If I was rich this is the kind of stuff I would collect. Anything historical. American or foreign. I really love old west history. I would amass a collection then open a museum and all proceeds would go to schools. But money isn't very important to me so people like me don't get rich because we don't really care about being rich.

Bonnie and Clyde were a couple of dirtballs, both were stone sociopaths who killed for fun and never made more than 4,000 grand in a robbery. One story illustrates this, they were in a small Texas town and pulled up to a policeman directing traffic. Bonnie waved him over and drew a sawed 12 double barreled shotgun she had hidden under her skirt and shot the man with both barrels. Killing him instantly. There was no reason to do this, no hot persuit, advantage in crime or revenge, just killed a guy directing traffic. The movie "Bonnie and Clyde", with Fay Dunaway and Warren Beatty even showed Clyde returning money to a farmer in a bank. Clyde Barrow never did this, Dillinger did. These two were scum and never had the class of Dillinger. By the way Dillinger's name was pronounced by the family with a hard G, Dillin-GER not JER. The media pronounced the name incorrectly and it did sound better rhyming with Derringer.
If these two (stupidly) ahd not taken pictures posing with guns and Bonnie writing some sappy poetry to newspapers they would have gotten their true place in history, sociopathic drifter scum who killed for fun.

Mayo Auctions and Realty, Kansas City Mo., listed this Thompson as "believed" a to be owned by Bonnie Clyde. Also they say "several signs storngly suggest Bonnie and Clyde toted these guns"
For 210K you better have documentation 3 inches high on a gun "believed" to be owned by B & C!

Sounds like highway robbery to me.

I'm sure if I had that kind of money ,as this person did. Research prior to the sale would have been done. We could all, almost bet our dollar the gun was investigated prior to being purchased. Amen we live in the U.S.A. or the freedom of speech and the freedom of making a purchase like this could never happen. Have to admit - it was a smart move on their part not to have their name published as the purchaser.

you have to be a collector , or someone with a class 3 firearms license to obtain those

Bullshirt. Anyone is allowed to possess a fully automatic weapon or silencer provided they register it with the ATF ($200.00 fee) and assuming that they are not disqualified because of some history such as being a convicted felon or a number of other classifications. Anyone who can afford to pay $210,000.00 for a gun THOUGHT to be used by Bonnie and Clyde should have no trouble coughing up the extra $200 ATF registration fee and filling out the forms. I have had a couple of friends who owned fully automatic AK47's and fully automatic M-15's, they are required to have a secure storage place such as a gun safe and they are required to notify ATF if something happens to the weapon or if they somehow dispose of it. Other than that, the only difficulty is being able to afford the ammo that those beasts eat

You are correct sir, I own 3 myself on a form 4. Also 2 9mm cans. Used a Living Trust.Very easy to buy with one of those.

Oops, Typo, I meant M-16, not M-15. My keyboard top row number typing sometimes leaves something to be desired.

When they were killed a lot of what they had in their car was taken as souvenirs, both by onlookers as well as the ones that ambushed them. Clyde had his whole arsenal in the car that hasn't been seen since.

I hope they know that you need a special permit to own a Thompson. And if you don't have it you can do hard time.
09:27 AM on 01/24/2012
Not if fixed to not ever shoot again

Then what good is having it? I never said that one shouldn't own one, I had one back in the 80's and it was a blast to shoot. Only that whoever bought it needs that special permit in accordance with the 1935 law or they face years in jail time as well as a heavy fine.
10:17 AM on 01/24/2012
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh really ????? I thought that we live in the free world !!! Any dumby knows that you need a license to own a fully automatic firearm in the free world. Real gangstas don't give a damn what the law is ---- they just do it anyway !!! example : O.G. -- Bonnie and Clyde

With comments like that, I can see why you have only one fan. The Thompson was a real problem back in the 30's, that's why starting in 1935 you've needed a special permit to own it. People complain about gun laws of today and they forget that the very first one dates to the 1930's and covered only the Thompson.

well those people got ripped off cuz bonnie and clyde didnt use tommy guns they use they browning VR 8 that was there choice of gun

clyde did use a thompson at one time, He stated that he would rather use the bar because he could not shoot through car doors with the thompson. But how can you prove this weapon was used or not used by them? You cant.So the buyer always has that thought that maybe they used it.That thought was worth $250 k to him so i dont think anyone is going to burst his bubble.

This is the reason people sell things at auction. Often the price reflects not the value of the piece, but the ego and competition between two people who both want it.

I believe that there was one picture taken of Bonnie holding a Thompson. You are right though, Clyde did indeed favor the B.A.R.

It's nice to see that all you gun enthusiasts finally have a site to share your thoughts, without having to worry about wacky gun control liberals trying to ruin your fun. So, I'm not going to say a thing. I'll leave you to your musings. Have a nice day.

Freedom is a great thing. Look at how wonderful California's strict gun laws work. How many shootings in the last week out there? Guns don't kill people, nutty people kill people.
