Federal Government Opening Late Due To Freezing Rain

Federal Government Opening Late

WASHINGTON -- Freezing rain and slick roads in the D.C. region have prompted the Office of Personnel Management to delay the opening of the federal government on Monday morning.

Due to expected icy conditions, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management recommends that Federal employees remain off the road until 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23. Federal Government offices will open to the public at 11:00 a.m. Employees who commute to the office will be granted excused absence for the delayed arrival. Employees have the option to use unscheduled leave and/or unscheduled telework for the entire workday in lieu of a delayed arrival.

The District of Columbia government and the D.C. public schools are opening on time, according to the office of Mayor Vincent Gray.

Metro will also run extended morning rush-hour service on Metrorail and Metrobus to accomodate extra ridership expected after 9 a.m.
