John Boehner Spoofs State Of The Union As Horror Movie

With President Obama delivering his third State of the Union address on Tuesday night, House Speaker John Boehner's (R-Ohio) office wants to remind everyone that it's also 1,000 days since the Senate approved its last budget on April 29, 2009.

In a mock movie trailer for a film called "1,000 Days Without A Budget," the GOP leader slams Senate Democrats such as Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), as well as Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, as "the producers of a failed 'stimulus' & 35 months of 8%+ unemployment."

The ad also hits the Senate for blocking a number of jobs bills passed by the House.

Members of both parties have expressed growing frustration with the legislative deadlock, which Republican leaders blame largely on Democrats in the Senate. One GOP House member, Doug Lamborn, said he's so angry with Obama's spending policies that he will boycott the State of the Union.

In 2010, Congress failed to pass either a budget or any formal budget resolutions.

The fiscal standoff has continued. In May, dueling budgets endorsed by Obama and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) both went down, with five Republicans and every Democrat opposing the Ryan plan.

During the summer, the Senate killed Boehner's debt ceiling bill, replacing much of it with language crafted by Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

"At moments like this, the arrogance of Washington is most evident not in its actions, but in its inaction," Boehner wrote in a National Review op-ed during the debt ceiling debate.
