Arianna Huffington Receives Aenne Burda Award At DLD Conference

Arianna Receives Big Award

Arianna Huffington received the Aenne Burda Award, which recognizes visionary female entrepreneurs, at the international digital conference DLD in Munich.

Huffington, the founder and editor-in-chief of the AOL Huffington Post Media Group, tweeted her excitement at receiving the award on Tuesday. It was presented by Dr. Maria Furtwängler-Burda, who praised Huffington as an example of female empowerment. She said, "Arianna Huffington experienced backstrokes and was never deterred by them –- her fearlessness is a stimulus for women, to get active themselves."

In a statement on Tuesday, the conference organizers said that the Aenne Burda Award "honors women for their entrepreneurial and creative achievements within the digital industry." Burda founded Hubert Burda Media, one of the world's largest fashion publishing houses, in post-war Germany.

Earlier honorees are Marissa Mayer, Vice President of Google (2006), Flickr founder Caterina Fake (2007), TV-presenter and entrepreneur Martha Stewart (2008), internet-pioneer and investor Esther Dyson (2009), chairwoman of the Mozilla Foundation Mitchell Baker (2010) as well as Net-a-Porter founder Natalie Massenet (2011).

Huffington has been in Europe for the launch of Le Huffington Post in France, and is now headed to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
