Chris Smith: Obama Is 'The Enemy Of Life,' Appoints Pro-Abortion 'Death Peddlers' To Cabinet (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 01/24/2012 7:20 pm Updated: 01/24/2012 7:20 pm

Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) launched into an aggressive condemnation of President Barack Obama's stance on abortion this week, calling him the "enemy of life."

Speaking at the Washington, D.C. headquarters of Christian conservative group the Family Research Council on Monday, Smith warned the audience about the importance of defeating Obama in 2012.

"We've got to warn everybody that disunity within our party -- those who are Republicans or those men and women of good faith and good will on the Democrat side and independents -- we may have some candidate disappointment from time to time and then say, 'Oh, that's not the best candidate we can put forward,'" Smith said. "We have to unite. Obama is the enemy of life, as is his people."

Smith then went on to accuse Obama of creating a pro-abortion "movement for death" by appointing "death peddlers" to key positions in his administration.

Smith, a 16-term congressman, is one of the most vehement abortion opponents in Congress. He memorably set off an emotionally charged exchange on the House floor last year when he argued for anti-choice legislation by graphically describing the medical procedure of a late-term abortion. His depiction prompted a passionate response from Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), who stood up and told her colleagues that she had been forced to terminate a pregnancy at 17 weeks due to complications, and that she was offended by Smith's suggestion that such acts were "either welcomed or done cavalierly."

The overarching purpose of the FRC conference Monday was to discuss anti-abortion strategies in 2012, including within the GOP primary.

The FRC has endorsed GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum, an anti-abortion hardliner who opposes the procedure in all instances, including life of the mother or in cases of rape or incest. In a recent interview, he responded to a hypothetical question about what he would do if his daughter was raped and impregnated by saying that he would tell her to "make the best out of a bad situation" and keep the baby.

Over the weekend, Obama reiterated his commitment to protecting a woman's right to choose as part of a statement released on the 39th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.

As we mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we must remember that this Supreme Court decision not only protects a woman’s health and reproductive freedom, but also affirms a broader principle: that government should not intrude on private family matters. I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose and this fundamental constitutional right.

While this is a sensitive and often divisive issue -- no matter what our views, we must stay united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, support pregnant woman and mothers, reduce the need for abortion, encourage healthy relationships, and promote adoption. And as we remember this historic anniversary, we must also continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams.

Interesting. So, it seems that in the view of this Republican Tea Party Congressman from New Jersey that more Americans are "death peddlers" than are not. As noted in "The Christian Post", recent polling shows 49% of Americans are "pro-choice" - so "death peddlers" while 45% are "pro-life" - so in favor of, what...letting some men impregnate their own daughters or strangers as a aconsequence of raping them?

(inflamatory rhetoric isn't nearly as much fun when people twist things to use against your own point of view is it?)

For any Republican to claim any other party or person is "The Enemy of Life" or any other such claptrap is the height of hypocrisy.

Did any Republican call any abortion ban up for a vote when the Republicans held (or hold) the US House?

Did any Republican call any abortion ban up for a vote when the Republicans held the US Senate?

Did President George W. Bush, an alleged pro life Republican, call upon the Republican majorities in the US House and US Senate to vote on any abortion ban?

Nope, all there was from the Republicans who controlled the US House, US Senate and the White House was a vote to add an amendment to the US Constitution to ban gay marriage!

Karl Rove (Bush's brain) counted the votes and knew he couldn't count on even a majority of either the Republican controlled US House or US Senate to vote to add a constitutional ban on abortions to the US Constitution!

Republicans have used and abused people of good faith to fund and man the polls. Republicans continue to fail and refuse to do anything significant about abortions and the whole while claim everyone else is a baby killer. It's time for people to realize that all the pro life movement is to the Republicans is cannon fodder for the corporate, millionaire and billionaire owners of the Republican Party in America.

Right. The party of small government with little big brother interference. Except for when it violates the narrow minded belief structure I subscribe to. Hypocrites.

Once again, we learn that Democrats consider women to be full human beings who can make decisions about their own bodies. Republicans see them as vessels for carrying children and as needing the help of Republican men in their decision making.

Smith, when you can become pregnant then you can do what's best for yourself. Until then, stay out of the private business of others.

As a woman we need to band together and REFUSE to allow our rights to be taken away!!!!

I am so sick of the GOP wanting smaller government but they are so concerned with what people do in their bedrooms and with who.......then want to the women back to the stone age and the GOP wants to rewrite history to know say how luck black people were to be slaves.

How does anyone take this party seriously???

The GOP likes to use "death" when related to democrats, i.e. death panels, death dealers, death taxes, but they never see the hypocrisy when they are breaking death penalty records, starting illegal wars, decimating civilian populations, stalking and killing doctors and nurses, kidnaping and torturing people, etc, etc.
