Chuck Todd Calls Mitt Romney Out On Answer About Conservative Achievements

WATCH: Chuck Todd Calls Out Mitt Romney

Chuck Todd called Mitt Romney out on what he believed was the GOP candidate's big mistake during the debate on Monday night. Other commentators have piled onto Romney for his handling of his taxes -- but Todd's critique picked on something else entirely.

Todd was speaking to co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough and Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele on Tuesday's "Morning Joe." He said there was a role-reversal at the debate, noting that Romney was on the offense while Gingrich appeared to try to rise above the fray.

The White House correspondent went on to identify what he called a "really tough moment for Romney": when the GOP candidate was asked how he has advanced the conservative movement. Romney discussed his family, his business and his accomplishments as governor. Todd said, "Well, that didn't advance the conservative movement. He can't answer that question very well either."

Steele agreed, saying that the moment "an absolute killjoy for Romney." Gingrich's camp picked up on it too, releasing this press statement on Monday night. Watch the segment in the clip above.
