Kyron Collins, NYPD Detective, Pleads Guilty To Robbing Cigarette Smugglers

In yet another addition to our ever-growing NYPD Scandals page, a 16-year veteran of the force plead guilty Tuesday to robbery charges after getting busted in August for using his badge, a gun, AND a fake warrant to rob some Bronx bootleg cigarette sellers. From The New York Post:

[Kyron]Collins, a 16-year police veteran who most recently was a detective in the 52nd Precinct, was busted last year in a 10-month string of robberies of bootleg cigarette dealers in Manhattan and The Bronx.

Court papers say he and two accomplices were caught on surveillance video loading up a black SUV after a July 26 heist in which Collins -- after flashing a fake search warrant -- ransacked a Fordham Heights stash house and swiped a cache of unstamped Newport cigarettes and $7,000 in cash.

Bootleggers! Crooked cops! And this isn't the first time! In October, 5 NYPD officers were arrested for smuggling slot machines, guns and yes, cigarettes. Maybe Bloomberg's incremental tobacco prohibition is turning New York into a brand new Boardwalk Empire?

As part of a plea bargain, Collins will serve 71 months in prison and pay back $1,700 of the proceeds from the heist.
