Newt Gingrich 2012: Super PAC Backing Former House Speaker Makes $6 Million Ad Buy In Florida

Pro-Gingrich Group Drops $6 Million In Florida

A group backing Newt Gingrich has made a $6 million ad buy in Florida ahead of the Sunshine State's upcoming Republican primary.

Winning Our Future, the pro-Gingrich group that made the buy, has put out a new ad hitting Mitt Romney for his Massachusetts health care plan. The ad claims Romney "invented government-run health care" and aligns Romney with Obama.

"We will run something new, something old, something big and something bold," Winning Our Future spokesman Rick Tyler told the Washington Post.

The pro-Gingrich super PAC received a $5 million donation this week from Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson's wife. That followed a separate Jan. 6 donation from Adelson himself totaling $5 million.

The major donations gave Winning Our Future the boost it needed to compete with pro-Romney groups, who have already spent millions in Florida. Romney himself ran a new ad in the Sunshine State on Monday, mocking Gingrich's claim that he acted as a "historian" for Freddie Mac.
