Steven Tyler Bombs The National Anthem, 'Conan' Responds Accordingly (VIDEO)

First Posted: 01/24/2012 8:54 am Updated: 01/24/2012 8:54 am

Aerosmith frontman and current "American Idol" judge Steven Tyler kicked off the AFC Championship Game between the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens Sunday with his rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner." Unfortunately, that rendition had a pretty loose attitude toward lyrical accuracy and what singing actually sounds like.

He's not the first star to butcher the anthem, though, and he certainly won't be the last, but that didn't stop Conan O'Brien from poking a little fun at Tyler on Monday's "Conan."

Check out the anthem's alternate ending in the video above and you'll see what we mean.

First of all , normal people could never hit the wide range of notes the song originally calls for lol. I think Steven did it just fine , he's the voice of Aerosmith and he sounded exactly as one would imagine he would when singing Anything. Very few people can do that song justice , Whitney could , Kelly did as well , I think Steven did it great for Steven and I am and always have been a a fan , so thank you Steven!

Not the worst. The worst would be Carl Lewis.

Steven Tyler always sings like this.

At least he sang the National Anthem with passion.

Hey it was nowhere nears as bad as Rosanne Barr singing out of tune, then grabbing her crotch and spitting after she was done.

this sounds like payback for tyler not picking the reporter's favorite performer on american idol.

tyler sang true to the words, true to his style and with a lot of heart, that's what counts.

e doesn't care. He simply does not care. Caring about how he sang has no place in the space of his concerns. To him, it is irrelevant how he sounded when he sang the anthem. If he were invited to a talk show and the host asked him whether he cared how he sang the anthem, he would say no, he did not care. Given a choice between caring and not caring how he sang the song, he would choose the latter. To put it another way, care he does not. Shall we go on?

See I think of "Casablanca" when there's a sing off between the Free French and the Germans. Everyone in that scene has so much pride in their country and their song! Seeing the close ups on the faces and how Ingrid Bergman almost cries... shivers down my spine every time! That's the type of song we need!!!!!

First off our national anthem is a disgrace.Few remember the words even fewer have the voice range to sing it.It was originally a drinking song anyways.Long overdue for a change to a national anthem that we can be proud of and actually sing.

I didn't think he was bad at all... the lyrical error was minor...pitch was ok...

definitely not Christina Aguilera bad...

did the guy who hired Roseanne lose his job...he should have...

I guess he figured it'd sound just fine if you drank enough whiskey ;-)
