The Trafalgar Sun: Art Piece Gave London A Few Extra Hours Of Sunlight

Art Piece Brightens A Gloomy London Day

On January 23, London residents got a break from the dreary winter weather when art collective Greyworld and Tropicana juice company brought a second sun to the city's famed Trafalgar Square.

The Reuters video below shows how the sun, which weighed 2.5 tons and cast the light of 60,000 light bulbs, beat its celestial counterpart to breaking dawn and stayed out later for a small crowd of revelers.

Tropicana sponsored the project, which Adweek bristled at for taking place in an urban, already lit area. Writer David Gianatasio argued that the brand would be better served by putting the sun somewhere that's normally dark (as they did in 2010).

Those who saw the sun seemed pleased, however, with one of the onlookers describing it as a "once in a lifetime experience."

What do you think? A cheap stunt or a fun public art piece?
