John Boehner Cries At Gabby Giffords' Resignation (VIDEO)

Boehner Crying

There weren't many dry eyes in the House when Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) bid a moving farewell to her colleagues on Wednesday, so John Boehner's tears came as no surprise.

As Giffords made her way over to the Speaker's chair to submit her resignation letter, she stumbled but Boehner helped her get her footing and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He took her letter, squeezed her hand, then the waterworks began.

It was an extremely touching ceremony that left many of Giffords' colleagues in tears, but it wasn't the first time the Speaker has let his emotions get the best of him. He struggled to keep from crying during his first address with a GOP House majority, bawled as he accepted the gavel from former Speaker Nancy Pelosi and has gotten weepy at many public events since.

Read more about Giffords' resignation and see video of the entire ceremony here.

Such a strong woman. I think the Speaker had a soft spot for her to begin with; he really respected her.

Don't ya just love how Debbie Wasserman could not take it that Gabby Gifford got all the attention when she resigned? She just had to have all the attention, as usual, by weeping. It was all about her and her feelings. OMG! Disgusting.
That big mouth matza ball makes me puke. Boehner and Wasserman must booze it up together.

Rep. Giffords' resignation was a very moving ceremony. I can understand why so many of her colleagues were moved to tears. Crying was a perfectly appropriate reaction on the Speaker's part.

However, it would have been a much more meaningful dsiplay if Rep. Boehner didn't burst into tears at every opportunity.

I can't comprehend how someone would do harm to such a gorgeous woman in the first place. It's very sad that she has to take a break from what she obviously enjoyed doing -- and she was actually one of the ones who did their job well and stayed connected to the people who sent her to Congress.

There is no doubt in my mind that she's going to start moving her right hand very soon and return to almost what she was before the incident.

All the best of luck to her.

I am certainly no fan of mr. boehner, who has repeatedly dissed this president and his attempts on behalf of the american working class.

But give it a break, HP - alot of people cried, it was a moving moment. There's no reason to single out the speaker because he was moved to tears.

Why not focus on the real issues when it comes to the speaker: like, 'where's the JOBS', mr. boehner!

Boehner must feel bad at how his party and political ideology are completely responsible for Gifford's injuries, and the murder of her friends.

I have to agree with what others have posted. As much as I hate the politics and hypocrisy of Republicans, he really had a reason to cry like that. Many of you posting the expected negative stuff, would probably be weeping just as hard as Boehner.

So I can cut him a break on this.
