Dirk Nowitzki Announcing: Mavericks Star Calls Game Against Timberwolves (VIDEO)

Dirk Nowitzki Goes Nuts As Announcer

Move over Gus Johnson, there's a new over-exuberant basketball commentator in town, and he's much bigger than you.

Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki was forced to sit out of his team's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night due to a knee injury, but that didn't keep the perennial all-star from staying involved in the action. Dirk joined the Mavericks Fox broadcast and once he was handed a microphone, the big German knew exactly what to do. The highlight of the evening occurred when Dirk called a Jason Terry alley-oop to Brandon Wright in the second quarter.

"Oh my God! Shut it down! Let's go home! That is a wrap!" he screamed after Wright threw it down.

If Dirk seemed surprisingly seasoned, it's because this wasn't his first time in the booth. He also helped call a Mavericks game against the Clippers in 2008.

Despite his prowess in the booth, the Mavericks probably want their best player back in uniform as soon as possible as they would ultimately fall to the Timberwolves by a score of 105-90.
