Iraq: Militants Bomb Home Of Iraqi Policeman, Killing 10

First Posted: 01/26/2012 2:07 am Updated: 01/26/2012 11:09 am

HILLA, Iraq, Jan 26 (Reuters) - An Iraqi policeman and nine relatives were killed as they slept when militants bombed their home south of Baghdad on Thursday, police sources said, in the latest attack on local officials and security forces.

The attackers planted bombs around the outside walls of the house shortly after 1 a.m. in the town of Mussayab, about 40 km (25 miles) north of the city of Hilla, two police sources said.

Northern Hilla was one of the main strongholds of Sunni Islamist al Qaeda during the war.

The blasts destroyed the house, killing four men, four women and two children, the sources said.

While violence has decreased sharply in Iraq since the peak of the sectarian carnage of 2006-07, bombings, assassinations and other attacks still occur daily.

Some of the worst attacks in the past year have occurred since the Shi'ite-led government moved against two prominent Sunni politicians shortly after the last U.S. troops left in mid-December, triggering a political crisis that threatens to unravel Iraq's fragile governing coalition.

Soldiers, police, government workers and politicians are frequent targets as insurgents try to undermine the government and challenge the rebuilt security forces.

On Wednesday, gunmen in a speeding car, killed two off-duty policemen in southeastern Kirkuk. The two brothers were killed in front of their house. (Reporting by Ali al-Rubaie; Writing by Suadad al-Salhy; Editing by Louise Ireland)

After the US disbanded the Iraqi Army it put a million military aged men out of work. The only jobs were to be an insurgent or a cop. Both jobs with limited futures and among the most dangerous on the planet. Iraq after the US. No security, No Government and a still smashed infrastructure. The Bush Administration and their incompetent handing of the war and their rush to illegal invade a sovereign Nation based on bad intel and forgeries. fubar

Bombs in Afgha. Bombs in Iraq, Things are getting worst there. The Muslim Brotherhood gaining control of Northern Africa, Iran continues with it's nuke building and threatens to block an oil seaway.... But the Seal team just shot up some naked, starving, Somali pirates. That should make up for it.

I am guessing if you were one of the captives rescued, you would not be so unrealistic.. Sounds like you would like to go to war with most of the Middle East.. How about you lead the charge.

You think I am a yellow a.. liberal? I already had my trigger time.
If I was one of the captives, I would be thinking in self serving terms, something people like you do even when they are not in danger.

Iraq is now spiralling out of control and will be in anarchy before we know it. I wonder why.

I served in Iraq and most of the posters base what they know on a lot of mis information. Please state things as your opinion. But, where is the outrage in the world press when innocent people get killed. Where is the UN?

Why does our government in the USA tell us, all of our troops are pulled from Iraq?
This is not true!!! My future husband is still there, along with many other men. They
are near Bagdad, and still are doing patrols, and called out when there is bombings.
My man lost a very good friend, just Tuesday. He returned from a leave, and was
killed within a few days. Do we hear of this, no!!

Our government has lied to us, what is new?

The US went into Iraq for only one reason...to destroy Saddam Hussein and the military power he had built up. We did not go in there to provide anything at all for those people save but more misery. Let that at least be understood.

None of these countries want or will ever have democracy. They don't think like we do-- that power should be shared, people have equal rights etc. What seems obvious to us is a total foreign concept to them. All decisions are made along clan and religious lines-- nothing else matters. Fairness is an unknown concept. We need to leave them alone to reach the equilibrium they finally settle upon like when Saddam was in power. As bad as it was at least the widespread killing will end and we can get back to fixing our own country.

Apparently Bush redefined freedom top include endless war after bankrupting the US. Dontcha just love the freedom we gave them? OUr MIC corporations and contractors were free to rape Iraq and Afghanistan for the last ten years, including the US Treasury and the future of this country. Some rapists are 100% legalized. We are so screwed.
