Matthew C. Couloute, Trashed On LiarsCheatersRUs, Now Faces A Google Problem

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 01/26/2012 5:43 pm Updated: 01/26/2012 5:58 pm

Have you ever Googled yourself and been shocked by what you found?

That's what happened to former Norwalk prosecutor Matthew C. Couloute, Jr., who claims his professional and personal life has suffered after jilted ex-girlfriends trashed him online.

Indeed, when you query Google for "Matt Couloute" or "Matthew C. Couloute," the first listing links to LiarsCheatersRUs.com, a site where men and women can write anonymous posts about bad dates or exes. There doesn't seem to be much of a moderating presence on the site, and users are apparently free to post just about anything, true or not.

The New York Post reported in August 2010 that Couloute filed a federal suit claiming "tortious interference" against two women, Amanda Ryncarz, whom Couloute dated briefly, and Stacey Blitsch, the mother of Couloute's son and the so-called "Roller Derby Queen" for the Bay City Bombers female roller derby team.

Though LiarsCheatersRUs is currently down, a cached version of the page bashing Couloute turns up one of the posts presumably written about him. The post reads,

Matthew C. Couloute Jr.

Lives in Jacksonville, FL/NY/NJ with his new "wife" that he married in City Hall just days after breaking up with his girlfriend of 2+ years. Cheated on ALL of ex-girlfriends. Lied and cheated his entire way through his 40 years of life. Uses people/his son/women to get what he wants then dumps you when he's done with them. Has no long term friends. He rents or finances everything and owns absolutely nothing.

This post was submitted by Anonymous.

Another anonymously written post, printed by the New York Post, says, "Our relationship didn’t last long, as I figured him out pretty quickly, but for others, BE FOREWARNED, HE'S SCUM. RUN FAR AWAY."

According to Fox News, Couloute's Google problem has cost him clients and proved a major obstacle to buying a home.

"Everyone asks me 'is this going to affect our business?'" Couloute said, per Fox. "[W]hen we [Couloute and his current wife] went to buy a house, we've had homeowners want to know what's going on with the story, how it's going to affect our ability to pay our mortgage"

"This [lawsuit] is about removing those posts [from the Internet]," Couloute wrote in a letter published by the Post in September 2010. His statement continues, in part:

The point is you should not be able to anonymously defame people on a Web site set up in Panama -- outside the laws of the United States -- and get away with it. [...] I can sign on to the site and post your name and write anything I want about you.

Celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred is representing both Ryncarz and Blitsch. Allred released statements from the two women in September 2011. Blitsch denied having posted on the website and said she wanted the suit against her dismissed.

"Matthew has forced me into court repeatedly over issues which I believe could have been resolved without spending time and money, which could have been better spent on our child," Blitsch said in her statement. "I've have had enough."

Ryncarz, in her statement, admitted to posting on LiarsCheatersRUs.com:

Over and over,Matthew led me to believe that we were going to get married. I was shocked when he called me on the telephone on October 3, 2010 to tell me that our relationship was not working, and I was even more shocked to learn that twelve days later, he married another woman. I think that Ishould be able to protect other women from being hurt the way that I was.

A cached LiarsCheatersRUS.com page blasting an "Amanda Ryncarz (Amanda Foley)" can also be found via Google. This is the first result that appears when Googling her name.

Wow... Well, time to start issuing NDA's before first dates...

....and that's the same thing 90% of men are going to do to you so you need that old time religion...close yo dam legs. You ruin his business and then he can't take care of the child that one of you has with him evidently so what's the point. You knew he was no good early on and you kept on doing what stupid people do....the same thing hoping for a different result. No one is obligated to treat you right but YOU, remember that close ya legs and things will surely not end as dramatically as they seem to have for all of you.

Consider why, as others have pointed out, his lawsuit does NOT allege libel or slander- could it be because both claims require the defendants to produce evidence showing the truth of their statements in order to defend themselves?

Is it REALLY by mistake that he only claims interference with prospective business relations?

Considering an attorney filed suit, is it likely the decision to NOT force the women to prove their innocence, by failing to accuse them of libel/slander, was made hastily?

Is there a BETTER way for a lawyer being "bullied" to make even more a spectacle of himself and his "plight" than by MAKING A FEDERAL CASE OUT OF IT?? No pun intended!

Is he going to sue himself next for bringing even more alleged damage to his would-be budding legal career than the two women did on liars cheaters etc.? I would assume so, if history is any predictor of future events.

"Colin72 is a serial philanderer who stole money from my purse and kept making suggestive comments to my 14 year old daughter....and my 11 year old son."

That can be uploaded with one click.

Don't be ridiculous.

I told you that I would pay that money back.

Since these women are only stating "their" personal opinion, it opens the field for a libelous action on his part.. Now they are going to have to prove what they say is true which could be difficult... Always be careful what you write on the internet and where you post it... Nothing is secure in internet exchanges.

I forgot to mention... that's why they hired an attorney...

You'd think that Mr Couloute would know that complaints have to be about material that is both defamatory AND untrue.

And even if he;s right, everyone who's ever heard of him now knows the allegation, whereas before it was only people looking for him on google.

Never say anything about someone behind their back that you wouldn't be willing to swear to in a court of law.
06:18 AM on 01/27/2012
good for you.
many women have commented negatively toward the "man" in this situation not realizing it could very well happen to "women", whereupon, i think their position would change dramatically.
i do not deny that men are the more likely gender to "victimize" in these situations, but, i also realize that, not only do women victimize also, but "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned", consequently, some women (and, yes, some men also) might be proned to "exaggerate" and even outright "lie" when a relationship goes badly.
05:27 AM on 01/27/2012
I hope the judges rake those women through the coals and make them pay Mr. Coulute millions of dollars. Just because he broke up with them, they had to become vinditive. As far as his reputation is concerned the women's statements, shouldn't hurt hin aersonally because people know him. However, professionally these comments can be very damaging. Suppose someone near him needsan attorney and looks in the Yellow Pages for assistance, come across his name, and then google it.....you think they would sekect him as an attorney. Although, I believe that his personl life shouldn't be used as a tool to determine his ability to his job, not all people think like me. Also, why are these women posting on a website about liars....they should have known he was a liar as soon as he began dating then....My God, he's a lawyer...when are lawyers truthful, duh?

in regards to hiring an attorney, probably would make me want to hire him more. I don't know about you, but I want my attorney to be the biggest lout and with the least amount of morals. Get an honest attorney, and more then likely you will lose your case.

But if you think these women should be found financially responsible, then so should services like Angie's List.
05:25 AM on 01/27/2012
By law, this is called "defamation of character" because they publicly humiliated him, which directly affects his core business ventures. I am sure he will win this case just on that alone, regardless of what he has done to these ladies. The only people this law does not apply to are politicians and celebrities.

By Law: Any intentional false communication, either written or spoken, that harms a person's reputation; decreases the respect, regard, or confidence in which a person is held; or induces disparaging, hostile, or disagreeable opinions or feelings against a person....so if it is a true statement then it is not defamation..:)

Uh...no...if the statements are in fact TRUE then "defamation of character" does not apply.

Hell has no furry like a woman's scorn. These women should get over it. A man doesn't have to marry you if he doesn't want to and OMG just because he decides to marry someone else doesn't mean that relationship will suffer the same doom that yours did. The other woman may actually make him happy. These women should be sued and a judge should indeed force them to pay up.

then you wouldn't mind providing your name and location so other's can excercise their "free speech" on you. failure by you to do so could very well construed as not fully supporting an "uncensorred Internet".

All he has to do to prove this is BS is call upon good references correct? He has to have them, otherwise what precisely has been ruined or trod upon? She can't destroy that which does not exist. Where is his bevy of proof and room full of folks who can vouch for him?

*crickets*

Added bonus is, by filing this dumb lawsuit he has made the situation a million times worse and added weight to what WAS internet fluff.

Seems to me very few business folks would give that any real weight UNLESS they had misgivings of their own. They are using the site as a way out of dealing with someone they aren't comfortable with would be my (admittedly uninformed) guess.

The fact that he would take the mother of his child to court over this would be a deal breaker for me. Kid's come first. I truly believe that on the whole Dad's want what is best for their kids, and crazy or not a Mom is a HUGE part of what a kid needs.

A man that can keep his mind and his temper when a crazy ex starts trouble is 100% the guy I wanna hire.

I thank God for making me a lesbian after seein' what some of my straight male friends gotta do to see and stay tight with their kids. I'll take fighting for marriage over what they deal with ANY day.

Have several seats, those crickets you heard was the sound of your imagination. Most people would not want to or veritably be a "reference" for this particular situation. Is it really that deep?? Clearly, they are fusing his personal life with his professional. If it were merely "internet fluff" as you call it I highly doubt he would deem it to rise to the level of litigation- he has clearly been affected on the professional front and has the right to protect his interest, and the financial welfare of his child.

Most people don't win a gold star in the game of love does not give the right to publicly crucify them. If he didn't give you a disease, beat you to a pulp, or leave you with a child unprovided for....GROW THE HELL UP AND MOVE ON.
