After Divya came clean about her involvement in the near-death of a patient at Hamptons Heritage, Hank said he was fine with it. He said he understood and indicated that it wouldn't change anything at HankMed. But he was wrong, as seen throughout this episode of "Royal Pains" (Wed., 10 p.m. EST on USA).
Hank spent the episode second-guessing Divya's every thought and notion, as if he was anticipating her next mistake. He treated her like making dangerous mistakes like that was the norm for her, and not an anomaly brought on by extraordinary circumstances. Of course, it could have been avoided had she just been willing to reach out to him.
Finally, when she made a diagnosis with a patient, he pulled her away and confronted her with what he thought was going on. "I know you want to save the day here, but racing toward an unlikely diagnosis won't erase your mistake," he told her.
"You think I'm trying to vindicate myself? I am trying to do my job," she countered. The argument escalated until the patient's friend, who was sitting there through the whole thing, laid it out for them.
"Sounds like she didn't want to disappoint you," he said to Hank. Then to Divya, "And he's hurt because you didn't trust him. You guys must be really good friends."
And they realized he was right and they were. Too good of friends to let this stand between them, and so they did the mature thing and put it behind them. For real this time.
